Weekend of Family Fun

Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg Trip
Last week was incredibly busy at work for both myself and my husband. By the time Wednesday afternoon rolled around, we were both mentally and physically exhausted. So when he found out that he was going to have 3 days off straight (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) which NEVER happens, we both jumped at the opportunity to get a weekend away quickly planned.

Thankfully we live exactly 2 1/2 hours away from the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg TN area, and typically visit at least once a year. It’s a really fun vacation spot for families, and you’ll never run out of activities to do. No matter what your interests are, Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg TN never disappoints.

This time around, we booked a cabin through Alpine Mountain Chalets, and really enjoyed our cabin stay. Our cabin, Bear Necessities, was very spacious and with all of the amenities, we felt right at home. Of course, the boys loved the Jacuzzi! 😉

On Saturday morning, we took the kids to Ripley’s Aquarium and they had a blast seeing all the fish, sharks, penguins, and even getting to pet a few stingrays. (completely safe of course) This aquarium does an awesome job of catering to children and has an entire kids playground area with lots of interactive exhibits for learning.

After visiting the aquarium we enjoyed walking around Gatlinburg and shopping in a few of the local shops. We ended up stopping in All Sauced Up and enjoyed testing out delicious sauces, salsas, dressings, dips, and jams. Of course we had to go home with some Smores Dip. It tasted absolutely amazing paired with some chocolate animal crackers.

After grabbing some lunch and taking some afternoon naps at the cabin, we headed out for some family fun of riding go karts and kiddie rides at Blake Jones Racing Center. Although it was a Saturday, it wasn’t super crowded and we quickly got through most of the lines. I always forget how much I enjoy driving go-karts. 🙂

Once we worked up an appetite we headed over to Harry Harpoon’s Crab House, and enjoyed some delicious seafood. I ate the soft shell crab hoagie, and it was amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant, if you’re ever in the area!

It was so nice to have a weekend away from everything and to really just relax with the kids and have some much needed fun. Just seeing the smiles on my kids’ faces when we all get to do things together as a family, is priceless.

This impromptu weekend away also reminded me the importance of learning to just live in the moment and have fun. Too often, I focus on planning every detail out, and it’s much more relaxing to sometimes just go with the flow.

Hope each of you have a wonderful week, and thanks for stopping by!-Cara
