Biscuit Ingredients

For Greasing Pan

  • 1/2 tbsp neutral flavored oil

Instructions

  1. First, place 1/2 stick of butter in the freezer to chill for at least 15 minutes. While butter is chilling, gather up all the tools and other ingredients you’ll need and keep cold until ready.
  2. Once ready to prepare, preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Next, measure out and add your self-rising flour to a large mixing bowl. Second, use a box grater to grate the frozen butter in with the flour, and stir until evenly combined. Lastly, create a well and pour in your buttermilk. Stir gently with a spatula until just combined being careful to not overmix the biscuit dough.
  3. Next, add 1/2 tablespoon of neutral flavored oil to a 10-inch cast iron pan and spread evenly on the bottom and sides of the pan. After that, use a medium cookie scoop and drop 8 biscuits into the pan, evenly spacing them apart. Next, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in the microwave and spoon onto the tops of each biscuit, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  4. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the tops and sides of the drop biscuits are a light golden brown.

  5. Serve your warm homemade drop biscuits for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and enjoy!

Notes

  • *You can use either unsalted butter or salted butter, it just depends on your preference.
  • Store leftover biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days
  • To freeze, let biscuits cool completely after baking them, place in a freezer safe bag or container and freeze until ready to eat.
  • To reheat, bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until warm. If desired, cover with aluminum foil to prevent the tops from over browning.
