10 Essentials Items to Pack For Your Summer Vacation
Since we are now officially in summer vacation season, today I’m excited to be sharing a super helpful guide with 10 Essential Items to Pack For Your Summer Vacation.
In today’s post I’m sharing all the essential items to pack for your next summer vacation, which must-have items you definitely shouldn’t forget, and how to pack a lighter suitcase to fit everything you need for the perfect summer vacation.
10 Essential Items to Pack For Your Summer Vacation
Packing for a week vacation or getaway doesn’t have to be stressful or overwhelming – all it takes is a little extra planning to avoid overpacking and to ensure you look as cute and stylish as possible. The key in knowing what to pack is determining what activities you’ll be doing on your trip and choosing essential items that can be variated and worn for both day and night throughout your trip.

Up first on the list of essentials to pack for your summer vacation is the most important summer-time accessory. No summer vacation is complete without a stylish pair of sunglasses!
A Cute Hat
You all already know I’m a huge fan of hats, but to me they’re 110% necessary for any summer vacation. A. They’re super adorable and B. They help keep out the sun. It’s really a win-win.
I actually typically pack 2 hats on vacation including a cute fedora perfect for wearing out and about, and an oversized sun hat for lounging by the pool or beach. This one has such a cute seashell detail on it that’d be adorable for the beach!
A Classic One-Piece Swimsuit
Whether you’re heading to the beach or going on a weekend getaway, you can’t go wrong with a classic, one-piece swimsuit. One-piece swimsuits are super flattering on all body types and they help save space in your suitcase.
I’m totally obsessed with this gorgeous, navy polka-dot swimsuit that I purchased for my recent weekend trip, and it’s so cute and comfy to wear around.
You might be wondering why a kimono is on this list, but it’s a total must-have for vacation due to its versatility. Wear it paired with a tank and jeans for a casual day look, wear it over your swimsuit for a cover-up, or wear it with a dress when going out for dinner!
Versatile, Comfy Shoes
One of the most important essentials you can bring on any vacation is versatile and comfortable shoes. I’ll be the first to admit, I’ve made the mistake once or twice of bringing the wrong pair of shoes and later having the blisters to prove it.
Thankfully, I recently discovered these adorable bow slip-ons by Baretraps and they’re the perfect shoes to take on vacay! Not only are they totally cute but they feature Baretraps exclusive Rebound Technology™ which includes a built-in arch support, vibration absorbing foam for extra comfort, a slip-resistant tread, and an anti-microbial shield for odor protection.
In case you’ve never checked out Baretraps, they’re an awesome shoe brand focused on creating and providing affordable and quality footwear that are both stylish and comfortable. They have so many cute and comfortable styles online right now that are perfect for vacay including the Britta bow slip-ons, these bow floral sandals, and these calf-suede buckle sandals. You can shop the entire Baretraps collection at Footwear Unlimited over here.
A Pair of Boyfriend Jeans/Shorts
For jeans, I couldn’t think of a more perfect wardrobe essential than a pair of boyfriend jeans or shorts. Unlike skinny jeans, boyfriend jeans have a more relaxed fit which is ideal when you’re on vacation.
They can also easily be dressed up or down, making them a great item to have in your suitcase. I’ve been living in these boyfriend jeans over the last month and they come in dark blue or white!
A Soft, White or Grey Tee
Keeping with the relaxed vibe, there’s no better vacation essential than a soft t-shirt. Whether you’re lounging around the hotel, going for a walk around town, or grabbing a quick lunch, it works for all-occasions.
A Crossbody Purse
Nobody and I do mean nobody wants to be toting around a heavy bag on vacation, so leave your “everything but the kitchen sink” purse at home and opt for a lighter bag like this cute and practical crossbody.
This hot pink one has been on total repeat since purchasing it a couple months ago and it holds exactly everything I need (phone, wallet, sunglasses, keys) without being bulky. It also comes in tons of other colors if hot pink isn’t your thing. 😉
A Lightweight Sundress or Maxi Dress
Another must-have for your summer vacation? A beautiful sundress or maxi dress. It’s always good to have at least one dress in your suitcase and you can’t go wrong with either of these.
A Denim Jacket
Last but not least, I don’t think I’ve ever went on a vacation where it didn’t rain or get a little chilly at least once, so packing a jacket is a must. A light-weight, denim jacket is the perfect vacation essential and it pairs nicely with just about anything.
Tips for Packing A Lighter Suitcase:
In case you’re wondering how to pack a lighter suitcase for your next vacation, here’s some helpful tips and guidelines to keep in mind when selecting what items to bring on your trip.
- Stick to neutral basics like tees, tanks, and plain blouses, incorporating color with fun accessories and statement pieces.
- Pack versatile wardrobe items that can be worn multiple ways just like the kimono mentioned above.
- Avoid bringing special-care items that have to be ironed unless it’s absolutely necessary.
- Bring only 3 pairs of shoes: 1 for walking, 1 dressy pair, and 1 other depending on your location
- If time allows, plan out your outfits in order to avoid packing items you won’t really wear/use
Other Essential Items To Pack For Your Summer Vacation:
Last but not least, here are some other essential items you definitely don’t want to forget for your next summer vacation! Oddly enough these items are some of the most frequently forgotten.
- Phone Charger
