The Best Essential Baking Tools
What are the most important baking tools?
With so many baking tools on the market, it can sometimes be confusing to know which products are actually necessary and must-haves for an at home baker, versus things that will just collect dust and be a waste of money.
Because I’ve purchased/owned my fair share of products that I didn’t even need and don’t use, I wanted to narrow down a list of only the essential baking tools to make it super easy for all my baking beginners!
If I REALLY had to narrow it down and pick the Top 5 Essential Baking Tools, it would be:
- electric hand mixer (because it makes life easier)
- microwave safe mixing bowls (I use these FOR EVERYTHING)
- measuring cups/spoons (because accurate measuring is SUPER important in baking)
- large baking sheets (I use these pans ALL the time for baking cookies, pizza, veggies, bread, French fries etc.)
- glass baking dishes (If I’m not using cookie sheets, I’m using these dishes for making cakes, dessert bars, brownies, casseroles, chicken, and so much more)
What Every Home Baker Needs
In addition to the list of 30 Essential Baking Tools that’s included below, there are a couple other important items every home baker needs in their kitchen.
- Oven Mitts – Protect your hands and grab you a great pair of oven mitts like these. They’re super affordable and are a total life-saver in the kitchen.
- Apron – No matter how neat you might be, messes happen when you’re baking. I love using this cute apron whenever I’m baking to keep my clothes mess and stain-free.
- Tea Towels – A good set of tea towels is another must-have in the kitchen. Not only are they great for washing/drying your hands, but these tea towels can also be used for proofing dough and can help keep baked goods warmer/fresher longer.

If you’re still mixing by hand using a whisk or knife, do yourself a favor and buy this electric hand mixer ASAP.
It seriously makes life so much easier and helps ensure all your batters, icings, and dough get mixed up evenly and smooth.
A good set of mixing bowls will last you for years and years.
I’ve personally owned this amazing set of microwave safe mixing bowls for 10+ years now and they’re still just as good as when I first bought them.
I also really love this stainless steel mixing bowl set with non-skid bottoms.
They both stack up neatly in my drawers and take up very little space, and they’re a total lifesaver when it comes to measuring out ingredients properly.
In addition to the ones above, I also HIGHLY recommend this glass measuring cup.
It allows you to easily pour in liquid ingredients and larger quantities and is also microwave-safe for easily melting things like chocolate and butter.
If you don’t already, you really should own a food scale like this one.
It is super affordable and it makes it easy to measure out ingredients by weight.
It also really comes in handy for healthy meal planning and portioning.
A spoon is great, but silicone spatulas are THE best when it comes to mixing up ingredients.
I own several of these and they’re perfect for stirring, smoothing out batter, and for ensuring you get every last bit of batter out of the bowl.
A Set of Whisks
If you want to whip it REAL good with mixing up ingredients, then you need this awesome set of whisks.

Making homemade pastry dough and biscuit dough is SO much easier with this handy pastry blender.
Using a fork can take forever and doesn’t give you as precise of blending, so do yourself a favor and grab one of these easy to use blenders.
Last but certainly not least in the mixing category is a food processor/blender.
This is one of those home gadgets I didn’t know I needed until I bought it, and let me tell you I now use it ALL the time.

It’s been a total lifesaver with the older oven I have in my house right now.
Speaking of correct temperature, if you want to make sure you’re always cooking everything to the safe and proper temperature, then grab this handy food thermometer.
I use this all the time for checking to see if my meats are cooked to the right temperature, and there’s no guess-work involved.

Another must-have baking product is this wire cooling rack.
It helps your baked goods cool down quickly and evenly but can also be used over a cookie sheet for baking breads and my delicious Oven Baked Chicken Thighs.
I highly recommend investing in an awesome knife set for your kitchen, but if there’s one knife you need it’s definitely a paring knife. From chopping, to peeling, to slicing, and dicing, this paring knife will be your best friend.
A good pair of kitchen scissors like these is a must in any kitchen and they have so many uses beyond just cutting open ingredients.
I use my kitchen shears all the time for cutting up bacon, chicken, and sausages.

If you’re super handy with a knife you might not ever need a food peeler.

Cake Decorating Tips/Piping Bags
Speaking of cake decorating, some other must-haves are a good set of cake decorating tips and piping bags.
These are SO nice to have for decorating birthday cakes, but also are useful for drizzling icing on baked goods and adding fun details to desserts.
This starter set is the one I personally use and I love how the case keeps them organized.
If you frequently make biscuits, cinnamon rolls, and other baked goods, then you’ll love this pastry brush.
It makes it so easy to evenly spread melted butter or glazes on baked goods, and is way less messy than trying to use your hands.
You might not think you’ll ever need an egg separator, but it’s actually one product I’ve grown to be quite fond of in my kitchen.
Many recipes call for just egg whites or egg yolks, and it’s so quick and easy to separate them using this awesome egg separator.
This is another product I didn’t know I needed until after I purchased it, but I truly can’t live without my lemon squeezer.
It squeezes out every last drop of lemon juice and makes it so EASY.
