10 Busy Mom Hacks to Make Life Easier

Mom Hack #1 : Keep An Ongoing Grocery List – Hang a magnetic grocery shopping list on your fridge and ask everyone in the family to add to it any time you run out of something. This saves so much time and hassle from forgetting items you need while grocery shopping and helps lessen impulse buys.

Mom Hack #2 : Always Have a Donation/Yard Sale Box – Instead of letting the clutter pile up, keep a box handy in your closet or garage for items you no longer need/want. This will help you know exactly when it’s time to host a yard sale or take a trip to your local donation center, and will save you time and hassle.

Mom Hack #3 Bulk Cook On the Weekends – Bulk cooking saves so much time and makes life so much easier! Designate a day once a week or once a month and go to town in cooking up ground beef, chicken, scrambled eggs, and other items that will help lessen the cook time during the week. I love doing this with taco meat, spaghetti meat, seasoned chicken breasts, breakfast burritos, and casserole dishes. I also always recommend following the “Cook once, eat twice” rule when cooking throughout the week. Instead of just making enough for one meal always cook enough for leftovers another day, so you don’t have to cook every single day.

Mom Hack #4 : Take Advantage of Online Shopping/Free Shipping – Although I personally love shopping in-store, my kids aren’t the biggest fans, so online shopping is like a fairy godmother. Most of the time you can get everything you need shipped to your home completely free, so why not take advantage and save the time and hassle of having to go in person?

Mom Hack #5 : Buy Convenient Snacks + Drinks for Easy Lunch Packing- There are so many convenient lunch-pack snack + drinks options available now that can literally cut your lunch-packing task in half. One of the items I LOVE always packing in my kids lunches is Nestlé® Pure Life® 8oz. water bottles with SpongeBob packaging, which are now part of the Box Tops for Education Program that supports local schools.

Both my kids and I love the SpongeBob packaging and supporting their school through the Box Tops for Education Program, and I feel confident in providing them with the #1 global bottled water that is crisp, clean, and refreshing. (Nestlé® water always goes through a 12-step quality process, ensuring only the best taste and flavor possible!) Plus- hooray for cutting down on dirty dishes, am I right?!

You can find the new SpongeBob Nestlé® Pure Life® 8oz. water bottles now part of Box Tops for Education in-store at your local Walmart, or select the product in the image below to purchase online!

Mom Hack #6 : Prep the Night Before – Avoid the morning rush by prepping school/work items the night before. Spend 5 minutes packing up book bags, gathering up jackets, shoes, and lunchboxes, and set them all in one place to make it easy for your kids. I also always like picking out clothes the night before to help make it easier for both me and my kids.

Mom Hack #7 : Wake Up Before The Kids Do – Don’t start your morning with chaos and wake up a little earlier than the kids. It doesn’t necessarily have to be an hour earlier, it could just be 15 minutes, but give yourself some extra time to get things organized or to just relax with a cup of coffee. Trust me, your sanity will thank you for it.

Mom Hack #8 : Set Daily To-Do Lists – If you feel overwhelmed with a busy schedule and can’t seem to get anything done, it might be because you’re not setting daily to-do lists for yourself. Instead of wandering around aimlessly trying to accomplish random tasks, set a simple to-do list every day and focus in on those specific tasks. Even if you don’t complete everything on your list, it will help keep you more focused and accountable on what you need to accomplish that day.

Mom Hack #9 : Set Reminders On Your Phone – Even if you don’t use a planner, this is a tip I recommend everyone do. Our phones now make it so easy to be alerted and reminded of important dates, times, and time urgent to-do’s, and it’s worth taking advantage of. I seriously don’t know how I would remember half the stuff I have to do without my phone’s reminder feature and alarms.

Mom Hack #10 : Set a 15- Minute Cleaning Timer Daily – If you’re like me and you don’t want to spend your entire weekend cleaning your house from top to bottom, then adopt my Mom’s amazing 15-Minute Cleaning Timer rule. Every day set a 15 minute timer for everyone in the family to pick up around the house, and you’ll be amazed at how much you can accomplish in those short 15 minutes.

Last but not least, embrace the beauty in the chaos! At the end of the day my boys’ adorable, smiling faces make this busy season of life completely worth it, and I try not to get too stressed about the little things that don’t matter. Work smart, not hard, and keep being awesome mamas!

  3. 15. Minutes of cleaning is a great idea. Have you ever tasted those fruit containers. They are terrible and full of sugar and preservatives. I would throw in Fresh fruit. If you rinse a cut apple in lemon juice and water it will stay fresh.

    1. Thanks Cheryl! That’s a great tip with the lemon juice and I’ve used it many times to keep fruit fresh. With the fruit cups I get them in 100% natural juice, and not the ones in corn syrup. Thanks for commenting! 🙂

  4. The fifteen minute cleaning timer is genius. How can I get my husband on board??? Hmmmmm. LOL. I wake up before everyone else in the house every single day. I need that alone time, even if it is just to sit quietly with a cup of coffee and gather myself before I have to be “on” for everyone else.

    1. Haha, I present it to my kids and husband as “If you give me just 15 minutes of your time to help me clean, then you can play your games/relax/watch TV for the rest of your evening” and it works every time lol. And yes- love that! I wake up early to get in my workout, get a head start on laundry/dishes etc., and it just helps me feel so much more mentally prepared for my day.

  5. I love these tips! It’s been a huge help doing things the night before. I’m working really hard on trying to make waking up before the kids a daily thing. Unfortunately at this point it all depends on how the baby sleeps through the night for the time being. My kids love these “little” waters. The worst is when they open a big one up, take a few sips and then it seems like it gets waisted. These are the perfect size! Sierra Beautifully Candid

    1. Thanks Sierra! That’s definitely understandable- you have to get extra zzz’s whenever you can! haha And yes we love these waters too because mine tend to waste the bigger ones.

  6. The bulk cooking or food planning is my worst habit I have… I think my life would be so much easier if I did that.

    1. It really does make life SO much easier. It’s weird — as much as I love to bake I hate cooking throughout the week, so that’s when bulk cooking or pre-prepared meals really come in handy.
