August Confessions

 August Monthly Confessions

It’s hard to believe tomorrow is the first day of September and the first day of Fall is just a few weeks away. But I had a fun Summer with the family and good things are happening all around. New opportunities are on the horizon for me with this blog, and in just a few more days I’ll begin a new role where I work. I can’t spill all the details just yet, but I’m super excited to announce that I’ve been promoted. πŸ™‚

I’ve worked hard for the last 6 months, and it feels so good to know that hard work truly does pay off. Also, as a young, female professional it can be easy to sometimes doubt your abilities and feel like you’re less important than others in your field, but we are equally worthy.

Anyways, on a lighter note I’ll now share my deepest, darkest secrets for the month in my August Confessions!

August Confessions

Food Confessions
  • The Fall food season is my absolute favorite. Give me all the pumpkin spice and caramel flavored stuff, please! Also, Cranberry Sprite is my jam and if you haven’t tried it, do so ASAP.
  • I sometimes buy items at the grocery store pretending it’s “for the kids” but in reality they won’t eat it all and I totally know it. πŸ˜‰
Fashion Confessions
  • I often wonder why on days I have on the rattiest t-shirts and pajamas, everybody and their momma rings my doorbell, but on days where I’m dressed to the nines, I have zero human contact lol.
  • I wish shoe companies would make adult tennis shoes more sparkly/pretty like all the girls shoes I see in stores. Just because you’re an adult doesn’t mean you can’t have bows, sparkles, and hearts on your shoes.
Random Confessions
  • I literally die a little inside every time my car accidentally runs over a dead animal in the road. I literally do all I can to avoid running it over, but sometimes it’s inevitable. The thump makes me cringe.
  • It never ceases to amaze me how I’ll “google” cookie recipes and next thing I know I’m watching youtube videos of baby giraffes playing soccer. You’re good google and youtube, you’re good.
Pet Peeve of the Week

I can’t help but roll my eyes a little when someone makes light of blogging with comments like “Oh you blog? That’s cute.” Blogging is seriously hard work and to me is very much like being a small business owner. If people realized how much time commitment goes into creating posts, I think they would seriously think twice before spouting out demeaning comments like “That’s cute.”

  1. I am so excited about everything Fall! I have not yet had a Pumpkin Spice latte though. It’s way too hot here in TX to get one but soon! I am the same way when it comes to running over a dead animal on the road. It makes me feel so bad. I try not to though. And yes to blogging being a lot of work! I never realized that until I got into blogging.

  2. It ALWAYS happens that way! If I’m actually put together, I will have NO contact with anyone. Yoga pants and unwashed hair? Oh hey, EVERYONE EVER.

  3. Hello! I’m new to your blog nut just followed u on bloglovin. I really enjoyed your confessions section so much! And I could not relate more to the last thing you wrote about people saying how it’s “cute” that u blog. I have been blogging for 3 years now and while I am still a fairly mall blog, I consider it like a small business/part time job like u. And it is so frustrating how people that are family and friends act like its nothing. I get a decent amount of views but not many comments. And when I do actually get comments it absolutely makes my day! Any tips for growing your blog and getting comments? Your blog is so beautiful!

    1. Aw thanks so much for commenting Julie! So glad you’re following along now! πŸ™‚ I think the main thing for me has just always been about engaging with the people who visit my blog. When people comment, I always comment back and go out of my way to take it further than just saying thank-you. I’m pretty active on all my social media channels too, so that helps. I’m checking your blog out now! πŸ™‚

      1. Yes, thanks you so much for the tips! I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. Your blog os gorgeous and I hope one day mine will be as nice as yours. So glad I stumbled across your blog. <3

  4. I’m the girl in ratty tee and jeans as a nanny. I wish I could look all put together, but if I’m staying inside and not seeing anyone but the kids, practical it is.

  5. Yes to fall everything! I spent two weekends ago getting my house decorated, I just couldn’t wait any longer! Happy September!

  6. I am with you about Google and Youtube. I don’t know how we can go from cookies to zoo animals so quickly, but we do! Another one I’m totally guilty of is watching game show bloopers. If you haven’t watched that, give it a try πŸ˜‰

  7. YES to buying food and pretending it’s not for me. ha! And on the days I look like a hot mess I see everyone I know!

    1. Exactly! It was such an eye opener even for me to realize how much of a time commitment blogging is. Thanks for commenting, Rachel! πŸ™‚

  8. “I often wonder why on days I have on the rattiest t-shirts and pajamas, everybody and their momma rings my doorbell, but on days where I’m dressed to the nines, I have zero human contact lol.” = YES, this, always!

I get irritated at the condescending “aww, you have a blog!” comments, too. For me, yes, it’s a hobby but so much more. I put a lot of time and effort into my posts/site and it’s not some silly little thing.

Also, the YouTube black hole! I know it well πŸ™‚

  9. My little 4th grade students have the cutest clothes and shoes. It makes me jealous that A) I can’t find those things and B) they didn’t exist when I was 9 years old.

  10. Congrats on your promotion! How exciting!
I love Sprite but have never tried the cranberry one! I’ll have to try it next time I see it!

  11. Hahaha! This is such a great post! Wait, don’t dismiss me yet because I mean it. This is great!!! I laughed about the grocery shopping part pretending it’s for the kids, and then there’s the part when you are dressed to the nines and then have zero human contact whatsoever. You are majorly on point, especially on those humor memes. I just lost it when I read the first one! Great one, Cara! I look forward to read more posts like this πŸ˜€ xx

  12. So funny! I buy Oreos regularly in the name of sharing them with my family and usually polish them off myself. I hate running over dead things and my best hair and outfit days also tend to be on days where I see no one but my kids. I’m excited to whip up some pumpkin treats and watch football this weekend πŸ™‚

    1. Haha I do that with certain types of candy like Hot tamales and sour patch kids! Sounds like you have a fun weekend planned- enjoy it! πŸ™‚

  13. I love this post! It made me happy. Congratulations on your promotion. My confession: I love when it gets colder out b/c I get to wear my big long coat and leave my pajamas on to drop the kids off at school πŸ™‚

Oh, and blogging IS so much work!! AMEN to being annoyed when someone makes light of it!

  14. I love your confessions!! Several made me laugh out loud. I agree with your pet peeve. Blogging is so much work.

    1. It really is! I’m finally getting a good routine going thankfully, but it still is a huge time commitment.

  15. Your confessions always make me smile. πŸ™‚ And yes, I’m totally excited for fall! Cooler weather, layers, boots and pumpkin everything!

  16. Whenever anyone says something I do is “cute” (even teaching) I get slightly offended. Like, don’t knock my hobby or profession, it’s hard work!
Can’t wait to hear about your new blog role!

  17. Congrats on your promotion, Cara! I also love all the fall foods, can’t wait to indulge πŸ™‚ Guess dieting’s out the window for this year, haha.

  18. This is so cute! I love the images – they made me smile, which I needed tonight. Congrats on your promotion!
I sympathize with your pet peeve. I am trying to get my friends to subscribe to my blog and they keep being like “but it’s a blog. Why do you put so much time into it? Why do subscribers matter?” and I have to explain to them that it is a job and a passion of mine. One day we will educate these “that’s cute” sayers. πŸ˜›

  19. I am literally the same person as you when it comes to Google and YouTube. I was looking up a recipe as I was cooking dinner, and somehow—it lead to a makeup tutorial and me planning a work Christmas party in December, haha!

  20. Cara, congrats! So exciting to see hard work paying off. And I agree with you, blogging is HARD work and it requires a lot of dedication to keep it up!

  21. First off – congrats on your promotion! 2nd I have never tried cranberry sprite and now I’m really excited to check it out. I totally buy things that should be for kids and then end up eating them all – gummy bears, oreos, fruit loops – lol! Last – I want sparkly shoes too! Why can’t grown ups have better options?!?

    1. Thank-you!! Yes, cranberry sprite is a must-have for fall! Also, sour patch kids are totally bought just for me! πŸ˜‰ lol

  22. I love fall! I’m ready for pumpkin spice donuts from the local apple orchard!

  23. Hooray, congratulations on the BIG promotion. It is so nice to see other’s hard work paying off, and you totally deserve it! You should be proud! Also, I totally wish they made half of the little girl’s items in adult sizes. There are so many lacy, floral and sparkly items I even see at Target that I would definitely buy in my size, hahaha.

    1. Thank-you so much Jennifer! πŸ™‚ Me too! haha and I have pretty small feet so sometimes I’m like hmm, could I make it work? lol

  24. I totally agree with you about the pet peeve! I think a lot of people (family members that don’t live with us) really have no clue how much we all put into our blogs. It’s not just a cute little hobby, it’s our everything! πŸ™‚ And congrats on your promotion!

    1. Thanks so much! I try not to get irritated at the ones that don’t understand it because I’ll be honest until I started blogging I didn’t know how much time commitment was involved, but some people’s comments are very naive. Have a great weekend! πŸ™‚

  25. Good Post! Love you Cara and very proud of you and what you are doing and what you can do. I hope you did not hit that Groundhog that I hit on Monday night on the way home from work. Sorry about that.
    Love you Cara.

    1. Thank-you! I’ve been trying to hold off on buying it, but I have a feeling it will soon make an entrance into the home! πŸ˜‰

  26. First off, CONGRATS on the promotion!!! It’s definitely not easy being a woman in the business world. I feel like we have to work harder to prove ourselves! I am so ready for fall everything – I’m a big fan of all things pumpkin and fall! And YES to people dropping by when I’m a hot mess, but never when I actually look presentable. Always, always happens.

  27. Congrats on your promotion! I am with you, sometimes it is hard to feel ‘worthy’ as a young female professional, but sometimes you get recognition and it feels so fabulous. Can’t wait to hear more about it!

  28. Seriously fall can NOT get here fast enough!!! I’m excited for boots and sweaters and scares and pumpkin and apple orchards!

  29. Hahaha I have “lost” my phone before when it was in my hand too. Yikes. Congrats on your promotion!!!! That is awesome! Fall is my favorite time for food too πŸ™‚ I cant wait until the Caramel Brulee Latte comes back. MMMM! And I really wish that people that knew nothing about blogging just wouldn’t comment at all. They have no clue!

    1. I did that the other day! I was going around the entire house looking for it, and it was in my pocket the whole time! lol Thanks so much! πŸ™‚

  30. I would hate the “that’s cute” comment too. Most people don’t really understand the work that goes into blogging.

    1. They really don’t. They think it’s as easy as posting a FB status, and there’s a lot of work that goes into it. Us bloggers know, though! πŸ™‚

    1. Isn’t it the worst?! I don’t like looking at it either, so I’m probably legit going to wreck one day trying to avoid/close my eyes while driving lol.

  31. I always enjoy your confessions! I have the same grocery shopping habit. I had to tell a cashier that I grow the healthy food, so do not judge me by my buggy full of junk food! haha! It is true, but I have to point it out or they totally judge!

    1. Lol, I actually had a cashier comment one day “You sure buy a lot of Little Debbie’s cakes”. I was like yeah, I stock up when they’re on sale! πŸ˜‰ haha

  32. Same thing happens to me girl…I’ll leave the house for 5 minutes just to get something I really need and I run into everyone while looking a hot mess!
    Congrats on your promotion!

  33. My husband always says I’m going to cause an accident avoiding hitting an already dead animal. I hate that THUMP too. UGHHHHHH

I just had that conversation with a coworker who has a small foot & can buy shoes from a kids department. She said she hates they make them to “girly” – I told her I wish they made those shoes in my size. Give me all the glitter & pink & bow s& Princess stuff on them πŸ˜‰

  34. Congratulations!! Now… where is this giraffe playing soccer video? need to watch it asap!

  35. omg i’ve nearly driven off the road trying to avoid running over a dead animal!

also, when i buy gourmet chocolate, i hide it from kayla LOL.

  36. I love these confession posts. I too wish they made sparkly women’s shoes like in the girls department. That gives me an idea…thanks for that ? my confession would be I can’t wait for fall because I don’t wanna have to pay to get my toenails done every two weeks or so. Lol.

    1. Thank-you so much! πŸ™‚ They always put it out in the stores around this time of year, and it’s so good!

  37. Congratulations cara! Getting recognition for all your hard work is amazing, especially when it comes through a promotion! I loved cranberry sprite when i drank pop, sooo good! Yay for fall! Happy Wednesday! XO-Kim

    1. Thank-you so much! πŸ™‚ Cranberry sprite is the best- I wish they’d put it in stores year round lol Have a great weekend!

  38. I am soooo proud of you! Oh yes girl, give me everything pumpkin spice, in fact I just got a sign about pumpkin spice at hobby lobby yesterday. I run into people I do not want to see me looking like crap a lot, lol. Sometime I hide, ha ha

    1. Aw thanks so much! My son just asked me to make a pumpkin pie on the ride home from school yesterday so I think even he feels fall coming! haha Have a great weekend!

  39. Fall is my favorite time of the year, more baking, stews and soups, warm sweaters. Ten minutes on youtube turns into 2 hours.

  40. Congratulations on your promotion! And yes, girl: I will get dressed and see NO ONE, but the second I go out looking like a hot mess, I see EVERYONE. Ha!

    1. Thanks so much! I swear it never fails on days I look like a bum people always randomly come over lol. Have a great weekend!

  41. I love this! Its so important to be positive! Whenever I’m in a bad mood I try to give myself 3 compliments. Most times it helps πŸ™‚
