The Best Christmas Gifts Money Can’t Buy

With Christmas less than a week away, I couldn’t think of a better post to share with you today, and it’s something I think we all could stand to be reminded of this time of year.

Although I love buying and receiving Christmas gifts just as much as the next person, the older I get the less I care about what’s under the tree, and the more I care about the people I spend it with.

Today I want to switch gears from the plethora of holiday gift guides in the blogging world and instead share my list with you of the Best Christmas Gifts Money Can’t Buy. These are the best Christmas gifts that everyone in your life will love to receive year after year, and the gifts that will bring them more joy than anything you could ever buy for them.

Being Present

Want to know one Christmas gift that everyone will really love this year? Having your full, devoted attention at all your holiday gatherings.

In this digital world we live in, it can be a struggle for so many to unplug from social media for two seconds to spend real quality time with their family, but ya’ll – put.the.phones.down.

When we’re not fully present, there’s so much that we miss out on. In this fleeting life, it’s the precious little moments with our family and friends that are most important, and I for one don’t want to miss them.

This Christmas season, put in the extra effort and do your best to be fully present when around your family and friends. I promise you it will be much more enjoyable for everyone (including yourself).

Showing Gratitude

Next up on the list of the best Christmas gifts that money can’t buy is showing gratitude and being thankful for everyone and everything in your life.

Too often we forget to tell the ones we love the most how much they mean to us or we take simple things for granted, but having gratitude and showing it is something we all could stand to have a little more of. As our family tragically learned the hard way this year in losing my sweet father-in-law, no one is promised tomorrow so always show and tell the people in your lives how much they mean to you every chance that you get.

And don’t forget to count your blessings at home either. I don’t know about you but after all the natural disasters our country has faced this year, I’m definitely thankful for my home, health, and family. My heart still breaks for all those who lost their homes or family members this year and it makes me extra thankful for the daily blessings we’ve been given.

In the end, when we are more grateful for our lives and those in it, we end up being more fulfilled and happy and less focused on material things that don’t really matter.

Spreading Kindness

Last and certainly my favorite on the list, the greatest gift you can give during the Christmas season (or anytime of the year) is being kind to others. This includes being kind to family members, friends, and complete strangers.

During the holidays, it’s especially important to be mindful that just because it’s your favorite time of year, doesn’t mean that everyone feels the same way.

Unfortunately for a lot of people the holiday season can be a painful reminder of losing a dear loved one, making being joyful a little harder. It can also be difficult for those who may be struggling financially or those who are dealing with a sick relative. You really never know what someone is going through.

Be kind and show compassion to others around you, and when you can – pay it forward. It doesn’t take much to smile at someone, offer a compliment, or to hold a door open. If you notice someone struggling or having a bad day, try to shine your light as best you can.

For many, this isn’t “the most wonderful time of year,” and I think it’s something that isn’t discussed enough in the sea of picture-perfect Instagram families. It costs absolutely nothing to be kind, and we all should make a more conscious effort to practice that. I hope you have the most wonderful, well-deserved break!
