Burgundy Lace Kimono + Lessons on Patience

Happy Wednesday! Real talk ya’ll- yesterday was a bit of a train wreck. Upon waking up my entire day was pretty much ruined when I dropped my iPhone in water. I know, I know #realworldproblems, but it seriously put such a damper on my day.

All morning long I desperately googled “Ways to fix/dry water-damaged iPhone” and literally tried everything under the sun to get my phone to turn back on. Of course it probably didn’t help that after trying each suggestion I would immediately attempt to turn it back on, only to be disappointed when nothing instantly happened.

And then it got me thinking about how we have so many similar expectations in life. We start diets on Monday and expect a 10 lb weight loss by Friday. List a house for sell and expect multiple offers that day. Try our hand at something new and expect that we’ll be the next great superstar at it.

But life doesn’t work like that and we don’t always get the instantaneous results that we long for. Sometimes when we think it’s the right moment for something, it isn’t yet in God’s plan for us. And while it’s sometimes hard to understand the why’s, it’s important to have patience, focus on the good, and not question what we don’t understand.

Yes it completely stinks that my iPhone is currently out of commission and I potentially lost all my family photos that my iCloud hadn’t backed up. But you know what? My kids and husband are alive, well, and with me right here in real-life and that’s SO much more important. Yes it’s going to be strange to not have a phone for a couple days while I wait for it to hopefully dry out in a bag of rice, but I’m pretty sure we all survived pre-google, pre-navigation, and pre-phone alarms.

And maybe if nothing else this will serve as a lesson to a. purchase an sd card I’ve been putting off for years now b. stop relying so heavily on technology for basic tasks (i.e. buy an actual alarm clock) and c. (most importantly) remember that real life and the here and now is ALWAYS more important.

Kimono (c/o Pink Blush)

And in case you’re wondering about this gorgeous burgundy lace kimono that I’m wearing, it’s from PinkBlush and is seriously perfect for this fall. Not to mention it’s pretty much the only long sleeve thing I can wear right now in Georgia, because well it’s still as hot as ever here.

Although I’ve worn it a couple of different ways so far, including pairing it with a skirt and pairing with leggings, I truly love the contrast between the burgundy and the white pants. Add in a pair of your favorite boots and you have the perfect, girly look for fall!

This kimono also has the most beautiful, delicate detail that is so feminine. It’s also super soft on the skin and non-irritating like some lace material can be, which is always a major plus in my book.

So even though my week started off on a bad note, I’m choosing to see it as a blessing in disguise and going to enjoy the time I normally would have spent unnecessarily glued to a phone screen with my family.

Buuuut if you could keep your fingers crossed for a miracle in recovering my photos, I sure would appreciate it! 😉

Hope each of you have a great week ahead and thanks for stopping by!- Cara

  3. That sucks about the phone especially the photos part and I can relate because my brand-new phone which I had only had for 5-6 weeks suddenly turned off and never got started again and no photos were saved, but again life goes on. We shouldn’t depend on technology as much.

Love these photos Cara and the Fall hues you are wearing which match the view. That wine lacy kimono is stunning!

Welcome by Thursdays every week and linkup with me. Love your style. Thanks, Ada. =)

  4. Sorry to hear about your phone! I know rice worked when ice tea got dumped on my laptop (thanks to one of our cats dumping my glass over!), but I’m not sure if you have already tried that.

I love kimono – I wouldn’t mind having a few in different colors!

But this is ironic reading your post today, since I also posted today about patience, persistence, and perseverance. And yes, it’s so important to practice an attitude of gratitude everyday and recognize what and who is most important in our lives.

  6. This kimono is so pretty on you! I’m not sure I’ve seen an all lace one before. Ugh, that is the worst having anything happen to your phone. It really makes us realize how dependent we are on them. We don’t even have a house phone so it’s our only way of communication. Glad you were able to look at it in a positive light! Xo, Sierra

    1. Thank-you! That was the scary part is I had no way of reaching anyone if an emergency happened, but on the other hand it was kind of liberating to not have it glued to my hand. Thankfully I was able to save the photos in the end so it worked out, but so stressful.

    1. It was weird/scary to know I had no way of getting in communication if an emergency happened, but other than that it was really liberating. I could sit down in the evening and not have the temptation of mindlessly scrolling through my phone. I didn’t have to worry about what was happening in the world for a little while and could actually focus on the now.

  10. BUT YOUR BOOTS! i love them. i’m looking for a new pair of brown boots and i love yours!

  11. Beautiful outfit! I had a rough start to my week also, but like you, I am trying to look on the bright side. It can be so easy to become overrun by negative emotions and feelings about ourselves and our lives. I try not to dwell on it too much as to not give the negative any more power. Hope you have a great weekend!
