Our Family’s First Florida Beach Vacation
Sharing a recap of our family’s first Florida beach vacation to Seagrove Beach, FL. Check out the gorgeous beach, where we stayed, and what to see and do!
Our Family’s First Florida Beach Vacation
Hey everyone! We’re officially back from our family’s first Florida beach vacation and we had such an amazing time! This was the first beach vacation we had taken in 2 years and let me tell you it was much needed and well deserved. Although we love the Outer Banks, NC and love visiting, the 12 hour drive just didn’t make much sense this year when we’re literally 3 1/2 hours away from the gorgeous gulf coast in Florida. Plus, it was time to make some new memories for our family and with this being our first Florida beach vacation, I knew it would be special.
We ended up booking “Teddy Bear” a 2 BR condo in Seagrove Beach, Florida through Airbnb and it couldn’t have been a more perfect location to the beach. Our condo was a little dated but with 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, a living room, and a fully equipped kitchen, it had everything we needed! The housing community it was located in was very nice and had a pool, walking trails, tennis courts, basketball courts, and it was located right beside several shops and restaurants. The best part though? It was less than a 5 minute walk to the beach!
P.S. I highly, highly recommend Airbnb for booking your vacation accommodations. The process is so easy and you can often stay in beachfront/oceanfront properties for even cheaper than staying in a hotel, plus you get all the amenities of home. We always love and prefer staying in homes/condos on vacation because we can bring our dog, buy groceries and cook meals, and feel truly relaxed while on vacation. Seagrove Beach Florida – Our Family’s First Florida Beach Vacation
First let’s talk about the beach. It was GORGEOUS. From the crystal white sand to the bright blue/green waters, we couldn’t get enough of it. We were initially worried the beach was going to be crowded because it was the first week in June, but this ended up being the perfect time to visit and we often felt like we had the entire beach/ocean to ourselves.
Seagrove Beach was also very family-oriented and everyone we met was so nice and friendly. If you’re planning a Florida vacation I highly recommend staying somewhere in the South Walton, Florida community, as all the beaches were less crowded and very family-friendly.
From watching the gorgeous sunrise each day to playing in the ocean waves til sunset, we literally soaked up as much beach and ocean time as we could, and it was honestly the most relaxed I’ve been in months. I left my laptop at home, checked out on social media and e-mails, and let myself just enjoy the time with my family.
Seagrove Beach Florida – Things to See and Do Nearby
Although we didn’t do much beyond relaxing and enjoying the sun, sand, and ocean, I wanted to share a couple nearby restaurants and attractions in the South Walton, FL and Destin, FL area that we enjoyed. There’s a ton of things to see and do along the gulf coast of Florida, so I’m definitely looking forward to visiting again next year and checking out some more restaurants, shopping, and fun attractions.
Cowgirl Kitchen Market – Serves delicious breakfast and lunch that can be enjoyed in a casual setting or ordered to-go! Plus how cute is this cow mural?!
Goatfeathers Restaurant – This place was about a 20 minute drive from our beach house, but well worth it! Pictured below is their amazing crab fries appetizer, which even my picky boys enjoyed. I also ordered the fish tacos and my husband had the broiled seafood platter and both were delicious.
Dolphin Watch and Destin FL History Boat Ride – Destin is only about a 45 minute drive from Seagrove Beach, so we made a day trip of it and planned a dolphin boat tour. This in theory would have been great except for the fact that I ended up getting a little seasick due to the unexpected rough waters we encountered. Other than that, my husband and boys enjoyed the 1.5 hour ride and we ended up spotting several dolphins.
Donut Hole Destin Bakery & Cafe – Of course no vacation is complete without some sweet treats, so we made sure to stop by the Donut Hole in Destin, FL for some delicious donuts. Hands down they had the BEST donuts I’ve ever ate- the only problem is you’ll spend 5 minutes trying to choose which one you want, as they all look so yummy! They also had incredible looking pies, cakes, and desserts, as well as all day breakfast.
I’m so glad we were finally able to enjoy a relaxing and fun Florida beach vacation together as a family, and we’ll definitely be visiting again next year! It was the perfect way to start our summer break and I’m looking forward to an amazing summer with my boys.
That about wraps it for this post on our Family’s First Florida Beach Vacation! Have you ever visited Seagrove Beach, FL? Where are you headed on vacay this summer? Let me know in the comments!

Thanks! It was perfect weather the whole time, thankfully! And yes I highly recommend the area- very peaceful and family-friendly. ๐
What a fun vacation! I’m so glad you were able to create such fun family memories together. It looks like you had perfect weather and that sand looks so soft. We love using AirBnB too. It makes a lot of sense when you need a larger space with kids. Sierra Beautifully Candid
