Family Weekend Getaway at Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta
Happy Wednesday, friends! Hope everyone is having a great week so far. This past weekend our family took a trip to Atlanta, Georgia for a small getaway and we were super excited to stay at Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta. Today I’m sharing a recap of our trip and a full review of the gorgeous Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta.
Where to Stay in Gwinnett
Located in Duluth right outside of downtown Atlanta, Sonesta Gwinnett Place is the perfect spot for families to stay in Atlanta, and the beautiful hotel boasts spacious rooms and suites, two incredible on-site restaurants, a gift shop, indoor/outdoor pool, fitness center, and meeting/event space.
Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta is the first dual branded property offering guests accommodations in Sonesta Hotel or their newly opened Sonesta ES (Extended Stay)Suites. We had the privilege of staying in the ES Suites and they were so spacious and nice.
Alongside all of the amazing amenities, one of the reasons I loved staying at Sonesta Gwinnett was the fact that it was convenient to everything to see and do in Atlanta. The property is located near many popular attractions, shopping malls, and restaurants, and guests can even take advantage of the complimentary shuttle service.
Lobby at Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta
Upon walking into the hotel, I was stunned at how beautiful everything was. The architecture, decor, and accents were all so gorgeous and it looks and feels like a resort.
Check-in was a breeze and all of the hotel staff were very courteous and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Both of the on-site restaurants are located on the main level, as well as a gift shop where guests can purchase snacks and souvenirs. The hotel lobby also boasts plenty of seating, complimentary wi-fi, and access to a 24-hour business center.
ES Suites at Sonesta
We stayed in one of the new ES Suites that were added in Fall 2017 and they were the absolute perfect size for our family. Our room had a nice sized living area, a fully equipped kitchen/dining area, a bathroom with separate vanity area, and a full-size bedroom.
There was also plenty of storage and closet space for extended staying guests and the rooms are pet-friendly.
Oh and did I mention that to access any of the room/suites and different levels of the hotel via elevator or stairs you must have a hotel key? This extra level of added security was something that both my police officer husband and I loved, and it’s always great to feel safe in your hotel.

Indoor/Outdoor Pool
One of my favorite things about the Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta was the amazing indoor/outdoor pool and jacuzzi area. Anyone with a family knows that having a great on-site pool is a must when you have kids, and the pool area did not disappoint.
We were able to get in some much needed pool-side relaxation while visiting, and we enjoyed having the pool all to ourselves while everyone else was out and about.

On-Site Restaurants
While staying at Sonesta Gwinnett Place we had the pleasure of eating at both on-site restaurants including ArtBar and Grapevine Restaurant.
ArtBar
If you’re looking for a great place to eat for dinner, look no further than ArtBar. ArtBar is a gastro pub with delicious, Southern cuisine and guests can enjoy a contemporary setting with beautiful artwork from local artists.
The menu offered a variety of dishes to choose from and we enjoyed sampling unique and delicious appetizers, entrees, and drinks that were made with fresh, quality ingredients.
I personally had the Chicken Pot Pie and it was to die for. ArtBar also has a great kids menu and our boys were super impressed with all of their food.
Calamari Fritta and Loaded Mashed Potato Balls
Delicious Georgia Mule Cocktail
THE Best Chicken Pot Pie
Center Cut Ribeye with Roasted Lyonnaise Potatoes
Kids Cheeseburger Meal with Fresh Fruit
Grapevine Restaurant
For breakfast, the Grapevine Restaurant offers a fresh and hot buffet full of delicious items that everyone will enjoy.
The buffet had traditional southern breakfast items such as eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, but there were also plenty of healthy items including fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, cereal, and an omelet station.
Grapevine also offers an a la carte menu for lunch, offering guests on-site convenience if they don’t want to leave the hotel for lunch.
Enjoying their breakfast at Grapevine
All in all we had a wonderful weekend stay at the Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great hotel. It’s the perfect hotel for both couples and families with kids and is located in such a convenient spot to seeing nearby attractions.

I couldn’t believe we had the pool to ourselves- it was SOO nice.
The food looks amazing and I love how the room has a kitchen which is perfect for families.
It was SO good. And I loved the kitchen too- it’s always nice to have a fridge for leftovers and for longer stays you could even cook in your room.
This place looks gorgeous and so welcoming – two musts for going away on a vacation. I love that it’s located outside of Atlanta. Adding Sonesta to my places to stay when I get down to that area one day!

It was the BEST. We really needed a weekend getaway so it was nice to have some relaxation time by the pool.
I loved all your stories over the weekend, it looks like you had a fabulous time staying there! You were right in my old stomping grounds, I went to high school in Gwinnett County and worked at Mall of GA through HS and college. All of the food you guys had looks so yummy, and that pool looks like the perfect place to hang in this heat!
Thanks girl! I loved hearing that we were in the area where you grew up. If we had stayed longer I would have totally asked you for all the best spots to eat. I couldn’t believe how much there was to do and see in Gwinnett County- it was so pretty too! ๐
This hotel looks SO LUXURIOUS! I’ve never been to Atlanta but this looks peaceful, and perfect for a weekened getaway! Also, did the Grapevine restaurant have wine? haha! I’m so glad you and your family got to get away and just enjoy eachothers company, I’m all about little trips! They’re perfect for reconnecting and spending quality time with your family! Great post girl!
It was absolutely beautiful- I was so amazed at all the architecture and artwork throughout. And the grapevine didn’t have wine but ArtBar did! haha And thanks so much- it was nice to get away for a weekend. Happy Friday! ๐
I saw your Stories from the weekend and it looked like you all had a blast! Sounds like a great place to stay.
We really did have a great time. I think we chose a great time of year to visit too- because it wasn’t as crowded.
Looks like such a relaxing place and delightful getaway, love the modern vibe too!
