Decorating a Home Office
Decorating a Home Office Tip #1- Create a Dream Office Board
I’ve been dreaming of having my own home office for years now, so when I first made the decision to work from home full time, I knew I wanted to create a home office space that would be both functional and beautiful. To me, an office space should 110% inspire you and it should be a space that you love spending your time in.
I recommend first creating a dream office board on Pinterest or on paper to really get a vision of the kind of office space you want to create. Start by choosing a color palette and design elements that you like, and gather inspiration from home office photos on google and Pinterest. In this step, have fun with choosing lots of items/ideas for your dream board and let your personality shine through.
For my dream home office I knew I wanted to incorporate pinks, florals, and gold elements and I wanted the overall design to be girly and chic. As a motivational quote lover, I also wanted to incorporate a fun inspirational gallery wall.
Decorating a Home Office Tip #2- Make a List of Everything You’ll Need/Want In Your Home Office
Now that you have created a dream office board, it’s time to narrow things down to an actual shopping list. I recommend first writing down all your office needs, such as a desk, chair, and office supplies. Once you have all the necessities on your list, then add your list of home office wants, such as wall art, photos, decorative elements, throw pillows, etc.
I also recommend making a list of your favorite stores to check out for all your home office needs and creating a budget. I personally took my time with decorating my home office because I wanted to ensure that I really loved everything I bought, and that I found the best deals I could.
I really liked taking my time finding unique pieces, and a lot of the time I would end up randomly finding an item while out shopping and it all just slowly came together piece by piece. By taking your time in shopping/decorating, you’ll end up truly loving and appreciating the space you create.
Decorating a Home Office Tip #3- Buy Functional Furniture Pieces & Organizers
After making your home office shopping list, the absolute first priority should be buying a desk and other items to get you organized. Decorating your space can of course come later, but having a good desk and places to put all your paperwork is a must.
The first item I got for my office was a beautiful cherry desk with file drawers that came from my husband’s grandmother, and I knew it would work perfectly in keeping me well organized. For several months that was the only piece I had in my office, but I knew it was the perfect foundational piece to get me started.
Later, I added a storage cube organizer to set my printer on and to keep all my photography items, books, and PR items organized.
Decorating a Home Office Tip #4- Fill Your Office Space With Beautiful Decor and Cute Accessories You Love
Last but not least, it’s time to get your decorating on! This of course is the most fun part about having a home office and it’s so nice to have the complete freedom to decorate the space exactly the way you want it.
Choose wall art, photographs, inspirational quotes, and other decorative elements that will make you love the space you’re in. After all, you’ll be spending A LOT of time in your home office, so you want it to be nice.
As mentioned above, one of the first things I did to decorate my office was create an inspirational quote gallery wall. I’m a firm believer in positive affirmations and I love seeing motivational quotes all around me in my office as constant reminders to keep pushing for my dreams.
I know some might think this is totally cheesy, but whenever I’m having a rough day, seeing something like “She believed she could, so she did” helps give me that extra push I need to keep at it.
My Home Office Reveal
Without further adieu, here’s a close-up look at my gorgeous home office. I absolutely loved taking my time in decorating and making it a space that is 100% my own, and I just love how girly and chic everything looks.
This DIY fabric bulletin board filled with my favorite family photos totally brightens up my day. I just love seeing my sweet boys’ faces! Let me know if you’d like a tutorial on how to create it – it’s super easy to make.
One of my favorite spots in my office is my sitting area where I take breaks throughout my day. The couch is the perfect size for my office and the throw pillows that I found are simply darling!
The wall art piece is actually one of my favorites, as my husband spotted it while we were out shopping one day. He said it reminded him of me, and after I melted a little inside because it was so sweet of him, I totally had to buy it.
It fits perfect above my couch and I love the quote and red lips.

I love the way your office turned out!! The hardest part for me is that I’m never on top of my work enough to get everything put together and organized. Just seeing everything put away in your space gives me crazy envy, lol. 😉 That picture of you and your hubby is so cute – YOU LOOK AMAZING IN IT!! 🙂
Thank you so much! Haha it rarely looks this spotless but I do try to stay pretty organized. And thank-you- it’s one of my fave photos of us from a few anniversaries back! 🙂
I am not sure what I love most. It is either your adorable mouse or the lounge area or your desk decor… Okay, so I love it all! haha! This space definitely screams that this is all your’s! I am so excited for you, and will now start dreaming of the office I have one day!
Aw thank-you! I actually found the mouse at Sam’s Club, but they sell it on Amazon too and it comes in several other fun prints. It’s so nice to have my own dedicated office space. Hope you get your own home office soon! 🙂
Everything looks great! love all of the pink and floral. Your looks s so comfy and your big window makes the room so bright.
Thank-you! The window lets in a lot of natural light and is nice throughout the day. I used to work in an office with no windows at my old job and it was so depressing, so I’m loving having a window now.
Your office is so cute! I love the couch and ottoman!!!! And all the art on the walls is just perfect. Such a fun space!
Thank-you! I feel like it’s very “me” which is nice. I think everyone deserves at least one room in their home they can decorate as they please.
You are inspiring me.
I re-did my office space last year & was happy how it was turning out… & then its slowly become my JUNK ROOM
NOOOOO!!!
I need to clear it out & get back to loving my room again!
Aw thanks! It’s rarely this spotless and clutter-free but I do try to tidy things up about once a week. I work so much better when there’s not a bunch of stuff all over my desk.
So strange… but I’m pretty sure we have the same desk! If not it’s identical! Our office layout is also super similar! I wish I could create my own space: J and I share so it gets cluttered easily. But I love how this turned out!
We might! It came from my husband’s grandma who lived very close to KY, so it’s definitely possible. And thank-you! I can’t imagine sharing an office with my husband he’s a clutter hoarder and I’m a neat freak lol.
You did so good with this space! I love the pops of color and the wall art you went with. We used to have an office in our other house and I really miss having one. It’s such a great area to sit and leave out some of the distractions and be able to get things done. Yours looks great! Sierra Beautifully Candid
Thank-you! The gallery wall is my fave and I love having the pops of pink and florals. Before moving, I used to work at my dining room table and it was so hard to get anything done. So glad I have my own space I can make my own now. 🙂
This space is soooo you. I’ll be revealing my girlie office and craft room in a few weeks. So fun!
Thank-you! I bet yours will be so gorgeous!
Such a cute and inspiring space! I love your little sitting area and all the accessories on your desk. Looks very you!
Thank-you! My office is the epitome of surround yourself with positivity haha but I love it!
Love the post. Especially love all of the pictures and different sayings you have that are positive sayings. Love you. Dad
Thanks love you too!
I love the seating area! I also love your pops of color — so you!
Thank-you! I didn’t realize it until it all came together but it really is so me! 🙂
It’s soooo cute and i love all the uplifting quotes around your space. The pictures of the boys are a must- totally adorable. You did a great job!
Thank-you! Gotta have inspiration and cute photos of my boys! 😉 Have a great weekend!
