DIY Pinecone Ornament #1 – Christmas Tree Pinecone Ornaments
First up is the easiest of all 3 pinecone crafts and oh so cute- Christmas Tree Pinecone Ornaments!
Kids will light up with excitement getting to select the colors to decorate their tree with and this pinecone craft can be created super quickly.
Supplies Needed:
- Pinecones
- Pom-Poms in Assorted Colors
- Green Acrylic Paint (I used Christmas Tree Green)
- Foam Brushes
- Hot Glue Gun, Sticks, and Finger Protectors (great for little ones)
- Scissors
- Thin Ribbon or Ornament Thread
How to Make Christmas Tree DIY Pinecone Ornaments
Step 1: Paint the outside area of the pinecones green with a foam brush and let dry.
You could also use regular paintbrushes, but I think foam brushes are easier for kid’s to handle, and you have better control at where you put the paint on your pinecones.
For the green paint, I used the shade “Christmas Tree Green” and it was the perfect festive green shade.
Tip: If you don’t want to get paint all over your table, I recommend using paper plates or a disposable table cloth to help contain the mess. ๐
As you can tell in the photos, this was one of my boys favorite parts!
Step 2: Once the pinecones are dry, begin decorating the trees by placing colored pom poms in various spots on the pinecones.
We ended up going traditional with our colors and used green and red pom poms, but you can have fun here and use any colors you want.
Step 3: Hot glue the pom poms in place and place a yellow pom pom on top to represent the Christmas tree’s star.
Cut out a small piece of ribbon or thread and glue with a hot glue gun on the back of the pinecone ornament for hanging.
Here’s the finished product of our Pinecone Christmas Tree Ornament! Isn’t it so pretty?
DIY Pinecone Ornament #2 – Rudolph Reindeer Pinecone Christmas Ornaments
Next up is my boy’s favorite and the cutest reindeer all around- Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer!
Not only are these reindeer pinecone Christmas ornaments super adorable but they only require a few, inexpensive supplies to make.
Supplies Needed:
- Pinecones
- Brown Felt
- Large Red Pom Poms
- Medium Sized Googly Eyes
- Small Twigs (For the Antlers)
- Hot Glue Gun, Sticks, and Finger Protectors (great for little ones)
- Thin Ribbon or Ornament Thread
- Scissors
How to Make Rudolph Reindeer DIY Pinecone Ornaments
Step 1: Begin by cutting out ears from the brown felt and gluing one of the ends together with a hot glue gun to create a natural ear shape (as shown below)
Step 2: Attach ears to the back of the pinecone with the hot glue gun. For reference, the pinecone should have the pointed end facing out.
Step 3: Attach antlers behind the ears by securing with the hot glue gun.
My boys had a lot of fun finding small twigs in the yard to use for this part, and best of all it’s free!
Step 4: Glue on two googly eyes and a red pom pom for the nose to complete your Rudolph!
I just love using these sparkly pom poms for this particular pinecone ornament, as it makes Rudolph’s nose shine so bright.
Step 5: Cut out a small piece of ribbon or thread and glue on the back of the pinecone ornaments for hanging.
Optional Step: Decorate kids as Rudolph and take photos of cuteness! ๐
Aren’t these adorable? I just love the little red noses!
DIY Pinecone Ornament #3 – Owl Pinecone Christmas Ornaments
Last but not least (and my personal favorite) are the cutest owl pinecone Christmas ornaments!
These owls feature tiny Santa hats for an added festive touch and would even look adorable as decoration on a mantle.
Supplies Needed:
- Pinecones
- Red, White, Brown, and Orange Felt
- Small White Pom Poms
- Large Googly Eyes
- Hot Glue Gun + Sticks
- Thin Ribbon or Ornament Thread
- Scissors
How to Make Owl DIY Pinecone Christmas Ornaments
Step 1: Begin by cutting out brown felt for the wings for the owl.
Attach to sides of pinecones with hot glue gun, pinching the ends to form a winged shape.
Step 2: Attach two large googly eyes on the pinecone using the hot glue gun.
Step 3: Cut out a tiny triangle with orange felt and attach to pinecone using a small white pom pom for better hold.
Step 4: Create the Santa hats by cutting out red felt into half-circles.
Fold and roll the felt to meet the opposite end to form a hat shape and secure with hot glue.
Step 5: Hot glue a small, white pom pom on top and glue white felt around the bottom of the hat.
Step 6: Place large pom pom on the inside of the hat and glue to top of pinecone.
Cut out a small piece of ribbon or thread and glue on back of ornament for hanging.
Can you even deny the cuteness of these owl pinecone Christmas ornaments?! I’m obsessed!
