The fall beauty season is officially upon us, which means it’s time to trade in those bright and colorful hues for rich, darker, shades for fall. I’m always so excited to see all the leaves change colors on the trees, and naturally my favorite look to rock in the fall months is a brown smoky eye inspired by just that. A brown smoky eye is the perfect, dramatic look to wear and looks beautiful with every eye color.

Today I’ll be showing you how I create my favorite fall eye look using browns, gold, and copper shades. Not only is this fall inspired eye makeup look easy to re-create, but as mentioned in my Fall 2016 Beauty Trends post, the brown smoky eye is one of the most popular looks to wear this season.

Prep the Eyes

Before applying the first ounce of makeup, I always start my eye makeup looks by prepping the eyes. Although we all wish we could get 8-10 hours of sleep every night, life happens and some mornings we end up having that tired eye look that needs a little extra TLC.

First, I grab a cold spoon that I stuck in the freezer the night before and place it on both eyes for 10-15 seconds. I also turn it over and place it on the under eye area for a few seconds. This helps get rid of any puffiness, and the cooling sensation helps wake my tired eyes right up.

Next, I apply 1-2 drops of Clear Eyes® Pure Relief™ Multi-Symptom eye drops in each eye. If you’re like me and wear contact lenses or have sensitive eyes, then the Clear Eyes® Pure Relief™ drops are perfect for you.

These drops help get rid of any redness, and provide up to 12 hours of soothing comfort from that annoying burning and itching sensation that often comes from a lack of sleep. Even better, Clear Eyes® is the #1 selling brand of eye drops, and are the first preservative free eye drops available in a convenient, multi-dose bottle at retail stores across the US.

Lastly, I apply an under eye moisturizer to help get rid of any dryness on the skin and doing this also creates somewhat of a primer for concealing the under eye area.

Using a contour eye shadow brush, begin by applying a dark brown shade to the outer corner of the eyelid.

Next, using a tapered blending brush apply a medium brown shade to the middle part of the eyelid. Once applied, now it’s time to blend everything, and work to really get that softer look. Begin blending the darker brown shade towards the middle and outer corner by swiping back and forth with the eye shadow brush. Using the same brush, carefully blend the medium shade in the crease.

Using a flat brush, lightly pat on a gold shimmer eye shadow from the inner corner all the way over to the middle part of the eyelid. This helps balance the eye look overall and helps brighten the eyes.

Next apply a rich, shimmery copper eye shadow allover the crease, emphasizing the product towards the outer corner for added drama.

Apply your favorite liquid eyeliner on the top lid, and a lengthening mascara to the top and bottom lashes. To really warm the face up, apply a light pink/peach blush to the apples of the cheeks.

  11. This is beautiful! I love how it isn’t too overpowering for the eyes. I like smokey eyes because you can tone them down for a day-look and then add a little more dark shadow in the outer corner and crease for a night-look.

  12. pretty! i wish i had the creativity to use eyeshadow….i don’t even own a single palette :/

  13. Such a beautiful look! I always struggle with a smokey eye because i’m so fair skinned but this looks beautiful! Thanks for the helpful hints :-]

    1. Thanks Leanna! As you can tell, I’m also fair skinned, but that’s why I prefer using browns and grays as opposed to black shades that can sometimes be a little too harsh for our skin tones.

  14. I love that the brown eye look is subtle yet perfect for fall! Loving this post so much, Cara! Thanks for sharing!
