October Drugstore Beauty Favorites and Fails

Happy Wednesday, friends! I’m seriously in awe with the fact that October is almost over. Can we please just get time to slow down this year already?!

Today, I’m excited to be sharing a new twist on my monthly favorites’ post. Instead of just sharing my favorite beauty products for the month, I’m also going to start including products that I tried out that I didn’t love. Because let’s be honest, we all have those products we purchase that are oh so disappointing, and I really appreciate it when other people forewarn me before I waste my money on it. So let’s get started!

October Drugstore Beauty Favorites and Fails

  1. NYC Liquid Liner in Black (Fave)– This liquid eyeliner is holy grail status for me. No matter how many eyeliners I try out there, I always come back to this one because it’s simply amazing in creating the perfect winged liner. It’s also the perfect tool to use in creating Halloween makeup looks! 😉
  2. Jordana Matte Lipstick in Lavender Lady (Fave)– I’ve been rocking this lip shade nonstop lately. It’s just such a gorgeous pale pink/purple shade and it lasts all day long!
  3. Revlon Color Burst Lip Butter in Lollipop (Fave)– This isn’t really a new favorite of mine, but it’s something I’ve been reaching for in my makeup collection lately. If you love a light, flirty pink shade, then this lipstick is perfect for you! It also has the most velvety soft texture on the lips and adds a nice glossy sheen.
  4. Revlon Colorstay Liquid Concealer (Fave)– I just purchased this about two weeks ago, but I’ve been loving this product so much lately. It’s no secret a full-coverage concealer is always a must-have for this tired mama, and this one does a great job of lasting all day. I’ve always been a fan of the Revlon Colorstay foundation and I’m equally impressed with this concealer.
  5. Wet n’ Wild Fall 2016 Limited Edition Eyeshadow Trio in Velour Vixen (Fave)– If you haven’t yet tried out wet n’ wild eyeshadow trios, then you’re definitely missing out! This one has the most beautiful shades for fall and is perfect for creating a vampy, romantic look. The browbone shade is also a nice neutral which will come in handy for future eyeshadow looks.
  6. NYC Get It All Foundation Stick (Fail)– NYC may be the creator of my all-time favorite liquid eyeliner, but they seriously disappointed me with this foundation stick. This had absolutely zero coverage, and zero staying power. I would apply it to my face and it wouldn’t even hold long enough to blend it out. I attempted three times before giving it the final toss, but in the end this product was a serious fail in my book.
  7. E.l.f. Sculpt and Glow Duo Stix (Fail)– I love e.l.f. but I’m not sure what they were thinking with this product. Although, multi-purpose products are all the rage here lately, they seriously missed the mark here, especially with the stick form. The sculpt color is chalky and the glow color is straight up glitter. Just say no to this product.
  8. Hard Candy Baked Illuminating Duo in Twinkle Star (Fail)– Another disappointment here, as I’ve always loved the hard candy baked blushes, but this product fell seriously flat. There was no pigmentation here, and what little bit of color that did appear on the skin was sparkly glitter. Not exactly what I like to see in a highlighting product. Save your money on this product, and go for the Milani Baked Blushes instead, which are ah-mazing! (review here)

  1. Good job on the graphic! I keep being surprised by Jordana Cosmetics, my only issue is it’s hard to find sometimes. Will go on a hunt for the lipstick!

    1. Thanks! It is a challenge to find their products sometimes. My Walgreens is always sold out so I usually have the best luck at K-mart. Good luck! 🙂

  2. I haven’t tried any Jordana products. I used to love the Revlon lip butters. I haven’t used them in so long. I will def stay away from those flops. Thanks for sharing this list!

    1. I just love how soft the lip butters are on the lips! And the Jordana matte lipsticks are awesome! They sell them at Kmart and Walgreens. 🙂

  3. Thanks for the heads up about Amazon Prime – a coworker was wanting to try it before buying it- I need to let her know this is happening

    1. I couldn’t live without it haha. It’s amazing to be able to buy something and have it shipped in 2 days.

  4. This is a great post! Love the fact that you share your fave and the fails! That will help us all save some money! Def love the liquid liner!!

  5. I don’t think I’ve tried any of these yet. I’m interested in trying Revlon’s concealer. I currently use Maybelline’s Fit Me, but I’m always on the look out for new products to try,
It’s a shame about the Illuminating Duo. Flat highlighters are a huge bummer to me.

    1. It really was disappointing because their baked blushes are gorgeous and highly pigmented. But I’m definitely with you, I want my highlighter to pop! 😉

  6. Good to know those are products not to try! I swear by NYX liner, too – but some of their products are definitely disappointing!

    1. It’s hit and miss sometimes, but I always like hearing what others like/don’t like as it makes it a little easier when choosing what’s worth purchasing. 🙂

  7. I have not tried any of these products. The eyeliner though I think I need to try! I am still on the fence about the Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Setting Powder. I have been using it to bake my make up with. I’ve only used it twice so far. I have been loving ColourPop products though lately.

    1. I have wanted to try Tarte products for years, but where I have naturally dry skin I’ve always been afraid that they would be too drying on me. I may have to bite the bullet and give them a chance though! Thanks for the recommendations!

  8. I’ve been using the same brand of liquid eyeliner for YEARS and I think it’s finally time to try a new one. I’ve really been liking the NYX products I’ve used so far, so I should give the eyeliner a try!
I wish I had read this before buying another drug store concealer – it’s just awful. Next time I’ll try Revlon 🙂

    1. I honestly think the Revlon one is a dupe of some of the higher end concealers. Loreal Blur Concealer is also a drugstore fave in my book!

    1. It’s a small tipped brush. If you like felt liners, try out covergirl’s intensify me eyeliner. It’s awesome too!

  9. Always helpful to know which products are a win, but also a fail! I’ve been hearing a ton about that NYC liner everywhere so it is definitely now on the top of my beauty shopping list.

  10. I always get so excited for this post! The Jordana line is so good and I love how inexpensive it is. Their lip liner is the only one I use and now I want to try this lipstick!!

  11. Bummer about the fails. I will have to try out that NYC liner since you speak so highly of it. I have heard people rave about Jordana but is it Kmart that it comes from? I don’t have one near me 🙁 I do love MIlani!

  12. I love this review! I really like to know the products that fall short. I am going to have to try out the eye liner. I have been going from eye liner to eye liner and can’t seem to find one that I like AND lasts longer then a couple of weeks.

  13. Great list of products you like and don’t like. I love that there are some drug store options that are just as good as the pricey stuff!

    1. I’m overall a huge fan of elf, just that product itself didn’t impress me at all. Every brand has a few flops and that was one of them. 🙂

  14. I have searched and searched for a good high-coverage concealer from the drugstore and just haven’t had any luck. I will have to try this one…I’ve tried all of the others from drugstore brands.

    1. What type of skin do you have? Mine is dry, so I have to be choosey with my selections too. I really like the Loreal Visible Lift Blur Concealer, Rimmel Brightening Concealer, and the Revlon one most recently. For high end, Nars creamy concealer is my go-to. Have you tried any of those?

  15. Thanks for the heads up on the two epic fails. It’s always good rediang reviews of different products first before purchasing.

  16. I definitely want to try the Hard Candy products. I’ve been hearing about them lately and can’t wait to try them. That Glow Illuminating Duo looks so incredible!

    1. It did look great, but unfortunately it was pretty worthless. It had zero pigmentation, so it’s definitely a no-go in my book. Check out Milani’s baked blushes/bronzers instead! 🙂

  17. Maybe I’ll try that liquid eyeliner. I just found my liquid eyeliner open in my makeup bag without the cover so it’s totally dried out and dead 🙁

    1. Oh no! I hate when that happens! I truly do love this one for a liquid eyeliner. If you like felt tip ones covergirl’s intensify me liner or jordana’s felt tip liner are awesome options too!

    1. The only place I can find it is K-mart, and occasionally Walgreens when it isn’t sold out. For the price, I was blown away with the quality, and this one is a really pretty shade.

  18. I’ve never tried any of these products but I’m in the market for some new lipstick so I might pickup that one from Revlon.

    1. I appreciate it when people forewarn me about products that don’t work well, so I want to do the same for others! 😉 Glad you enjoyed it!

  19. Thanks for sharing! I love seeing what products actually work before I buy them! Glad to know about the e.l.f. product, I’m a big fan, but I won’t waste my money here!

    1. Normally I’m a huge fan of elf products, but that one was a definite flop. Definitely better drugstore products in the contouring/highlighting arena out there. 🙂

  20. Love the Revlon Lip Butter! Also, love drug store finds – I literally could spend hours in the drug store looking at everything!!

    1. Me too! It’s a problem somedays! haha Especially when you have boys and they’re all “Mooom not again!”

  21. I will definitely pick up that reckon concealer. I’ve been loving my maybelline fit me concealer currently! These are all great picks!
