No Bake Peanut Butter Pie FAQ’s:
How Long Does It Need to Chill Before Slicing/Eating?
I recommend covering the pie with plastic wrap and refrigerating it for at least 4 hours before slicing/eating it. This allows the pie to firm up and makes for cleaner slices.
You can also make it the day before and refrigerate overnight.
Can I Use Homemade Whipped Cream instead of Cool Whip?
Yes! Homemade whipped cream is so simple to make.
Homemade Whipped Cream Recipe
Combine the following ingredients and beat with an electric mixer or whisk by hand until stiff peaks form.
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1-1/2 tbsp powdered sugar (use more or less based on preference)
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Can I Make This Pie with a Different crust?
While I 110% recommend making this pie with my nutter butter crust, here are a few other options in case you want to switch it up.
- Classic Graham Cracker Crust
- Peanut Butter Graham Cracker Crust (this is yummy!)
- Chocolate Crust (use Oreos or chocolate animal crackers)

Cara’s Tips – How to Cut Clean Pie Slices
- Chill Your Pie – Refrigerate your pie a minimum of 4 hours to overnight before attempting to slice. This allows it to firm up.
- Use a Sharp Hot Knife – Dip a sharp knife’s blade in a cup of hot water for 15-20 seconds, wipe dry, and then cut your pie slice in vertical motions working from the inside to outside of the pie. Make sure you cut through both the filling and pie crust, then use a pie server to remove.
- Set the Pie Pan in Hot Water – If your pie crust is stuck to the pan/being stubborn, you can set the bottom of your pie pan in a shallow amount of hot water for 30 seconds. This loosens the crust making it easy to slice.
