5 Ways to Simplify Your Morning Beauty Routine
Mornings are always a rush in my household, as I’m sure most of you can relate to. Although I’d love to have a full hour to leisurely get ready while sipping hot cocoa and trying out the latest Pinterest makeup trend, that’s unfortunately not an option.
So today I’m sharing 5 simple ways to simplify your morning beauty routine, that help prevent rushing and reduce unnecessary stress.
5 Ways to Simplify Your Morning Beauty Routine
Pick Out Your Outfit the Night Before
While dressing according to your mood may work for some, it can easily add an extra 15 minutes of indecisiveness to the morning routine. I try to always pick out my clothes, shoes, and accessories the night before, and will sometimes even try it on to make sure I love it.
Doing this ensures, time isn’t wasted trying on 4 shirts before picking out the “right” one. I always hang my clothes on the front of my closet, and make sure to cool iron out any wrinkles the night before if needed. I recently started using this steamer, and ya’ll I’m OBSESSED! If you dislike ironing, I totally recommend picking it up, and it’s super affordable.
Keep Your Skincare Products At Your Sink
Time is 100% precious in the mornings, so in order to avoid an unnecessary 5 minute search for skincare items, keep your moisturizer, cleanser, and other skincare products right at your sink for easy access.
This product is my absolute favorite cleanser to use in the mornings and it smells so good! I also like to follow up with this moisturizer that is super lightweight and oil-free.

Create a “Daily Routine” Makeup Bag
Although we all have extensive makeup collections, there’s certain products that we continually use on a day to day basis. In order to avoid spending five minutes trying to find items amidst all the shuffle, I’ve dedicated a specific makeup bag for my daily routine.
This saves so much time in the long run and helps keep me more organized when getting ready. I can simply reach for what I need, put it on, and go. I’ve included a few of my favorites below- aren’t they adorable?!
Use Double-Duty Products
More products=more time spent getting ready. Instead of adding yet another product to the routine, I like using products which offer multiple uses, such as tinted moisturizers.
I’ve mentioned it before, but one of my favorite daily foundations is the 9-in-1 Skin Perfecting BB Cream by Rimmel. Not only does it have great coverage, but it also contains SPF 25 sunscreen, which helps protect my fair skin. I’ve also really been loving the Pixi Multi-Balm Sticks which can be used on both the lips and the cheeks.

Style Hair Before Bed or Overnight
Styling hair can be a tedious process that takes time. In order to minimize time spent on styling it in the mornings, it make sense to do the majority of styling right before bed. If I’m going for a straight look, I’ll run my hair through the straightener and make sure it’s completely dry so it’ll maintain the look. I’ve been using this straightener for years and I love that you only have to run it over the strands once to straighten, and it’s non-damaging.

If I’m going for a curly look I’ll use my beachwaver pro (the absolute best curling iron!) and spray it with an extra hold hairspray like Garnier Anti Humidity Hairspray. Another option I like to use is throwing my hair up in a messy bun after taking a shower, and sleeping on it overnight for a voluminous, wavy look. The next morning, if I need to add touch-ups to any area of the hair, it only takes 2-3 minutes, compared to 10-15.
So there you have it! By using these tips I’ve been able to significantly reduce time spent getting ready in the mornings, which in turn puts me in a much better mood and mindset to tackle what I need to for the day.
I hope you enjoyed this post on 5 Ways to Simplify Your Morning Beauty Routine! What other tips would you add to this list, and what are some things you do to simplify your morning beauty routine?
Thanks for stopping by!-Cara
love these tips! I use to pick out my outfits at night but then I got a bit lazy ๐ . hehe xoxo

Thanks Chloe! It helps to make it part of the daily routine to save time! ๐
it takes me less than 10 minutes to get ready from when i wake up so i don’t really need a get-ready morning routine…it takes me 2 minutes to pick out what i’m going to wear since i never dress up for work and it’s always jeans and a tshirt. makeup takes me 1 minute and hair? pony tail. every day, it’s in a pony tail. not giving a sh*t about what you look like certainly speeds things up! ๐
Haha, I wish I could wear jeans and a t-shirt every day. On second thought, I wish I could just stay in my pajamas! ๐
Picking out my clothes at night has been the biggest time saver! I go to the gym at 5:30 every morning so having my gym clothes and the clothes I’m wearing to work out saves so much time! And once it’s out, that’s what I’m wearing.
Yep, I’m the same way! Glad it helps you stay more organized too! ๐
I always used to pick out my outfit the night before! Somehow in the mama craziness I’ve stopped doing it. Thanks for reminding me ๐
You’re welcome! It makes things a lot easier! ๐
You are so right!! I have nailed down a quick make up routine for every day and keep all of those products in one bag. I love styling my hair the night before and just doing a quick refresh in the morning. It saves so much time!!
It does! I especially love doing that with curled/wavy styles. Those are the most time consuming for me! ๐
This is so helpful! I need to shorten my makeup routine and probably just clean / organize my makeup stash too.

My makeup vanity in the bedroom is always super organized, but unfortunately the hubby works night and I’m stuck doing makeup in the bathroom so I work with limited space. That’s why I love doing the small daily makeup bag! ๐
Never thought to have a “daily routine” makeup bag but it totally makes sense! I could save so much time just doing that!
I was spending so much time searching for specific products in 5 different bags/containers, and it was wasting time. Now it’s so easy to have everything all in one place. ๐
I need to make sure that I make a daily make up bag. That would make things a lot easier!
It’s super helpful! Very convenient for traveling too!
I love showering the night before for many reasons! Saving time in the morning is one of them.
I know a lot of people like the refreshing “wake-up” feeling a morning shower gives, but I think one before bed is very relaxing. Plus it saves 5-10 mins in the morning.
I do this every single night! Well…I don’t pick out my outfit, since I wear scrubs haha, but I do lay the ones I am going to wear. And since I shower at night, I also style my hair and in the morning it’s so much easier to just run my straightener in a couple of times or just touch up some of the curls.

Haha picking out your scrubs still counts! ๐ Yep usually all I have to do is touch up the ends of my hair and I’m good to go. Such a timesaver!
Great advice! Thank you! I love the idea of a daily routine bag. I spend so much time digging around for all my products in the morning. ๐
Me too! It’s a huge time saver!
I actually started putting all my makeup in Z Palette’s to save time in the morning! Instead of opening and closing 15 different compacts, I put all my powders, bronzers, blushes and eye shadows in a Z Palette so I only need to open one thing.
That’s a great idea! I do go back and forth between several palettes so that’d be helpful!
I have a To Go kit–like a to go takeout order you’d get for food, this one has makeup, everything you need. Just grab and go.
That’s a great idea, Elle. It makes it easy when you’re busy and traveling.
My daily makeup bag is key to getting ready in the morning! Plus it makes it so easy to travel with since everything is already in one place ๐
Exactly! I love having it now so when I go on trips I already know what makeup bag I’m taking! ๐
this sounds so perfect.. this tips will really help.. being a busy mom and wife.. and also as a career woman.. tips like this really help.. thanks a lot
You’re welcome!
Love this!! The hair tip is a great one!
Thanks Rachael!
I always leave my makeup for the next day out abd ready, and plan outfits the night before. It saves serious time!
That’s so smart!
Creating a daily routine is one easy way I made my routine so much faster & easier! xx Adaleta Avdic
I think it’s a must. Otherwise everything gets all out of whack.
Great tips! Laying clothes out the night before helps me so much!
I think it helps set the tone for the entire day! ๐
These are great tips. I really need to get better about picking my outfit outfit out the night before.
I’ve just made it part of my nightly routine so now it comes natural. After I shower, I immediately pick out my outfit for the next day, try it on, and get ready for bed.:)
I try to pick out my clothes the night before. But my hair is insane. too insane to do the night before. haha. I love this post cara!!! ๐
Thanks Stephanie! You have such pretty hair though!
Awesome tips!! I’m all up on washing and doing my hair before bed!! I never have time in the morning to fix my hair!!!
Me neither! If it looks bad I usually just throw it up in a messy bun-haha ๐
I always try to pick out my clothes the night before, too. It saves me a ton of time! I wish I could do my hair the night before… I just don’t have the texture for it!
Have you tried the messy bun trick? It saves a ton of time!
I pick out my clothes AND accessories to save time. It helps so much, I’m indecisive enough as it is when it comes to that kind of stuff. Great tips!
Haha I am too! I’ll try on 10 necklaces before picking “the one”. LOL
This really is the perfect post and I try to do all this! Several years ago it would take me an hour to get ready in the morning, Now it only takes a half hour because I’m committed to so many of these times. On Sunday I even pick out my outfits for the whole week, although I’ve had to alter them lately with the crazy weather, lol.
I do that sometimes to! It really does just help set the tone for your entire day/week, I think. If you’ve picked out your outfit and are ready to go you can tackle anything that comes your way! ๐
Love these tips! This girl needs as much sleep as possible, so I usually shower and do my hair the night before which makes a huge difference in my time management the next morning ๐
Green Fashionista
Thanks! It makes mornings so much easier and enjoyable when you’re not rushing!
I almost ALWAYS pick out my look the night before! Sometimes I go all cray and do the whole week at once. Makes it SO much easier come morning!
Coming Up Roses
I’ve did that before too, like on Sundays if I’m bored. haha You know you love fashion when you do that. ๐
I try my hardest to lay my outfit out the night before. It does not always happen though. For my daily make up routine I keep it pretty simple, unless I decide to wake up early. Which typically does not happen. I love all the sleep I can get. Great tips girl!
Me too! Sleeping in is pretty much a rarity around my house, so getting a few extra zzz’s before my workday is so important!
I love these tips! I have two under two so I need my morning routine as simple as it can get!
Yep! I can relate! My boys are 4 and 6, but mornings are still pretty crazy.
These are SO smart! I would have never thought about having a separate smaller bag for everyday makeup! That will seriously cut down time for me!
Thank you for these tips!
You’re so welcome! I kept wasting so much time trying to search for products in 5 different bags/bins so I finally decided to think smart, not hard. It’s been a huge time saver! ๐
I always have two or three go to looks for eyes (the rest of my face stays the same) throughout the week depending on what I am wearing and how I am feeling.
Yep, I save the glamour for the weekend! haha Nobody has time for a smokey eye in the morning when you have to leave the house at 6:45 am.
Oh geez. I WISH I could sleep on my hair over night but it will never ever look good the next day. UGH! Lucky girl!
Thankfully I must not move around much because it really does stay pretty good.(haha) If I’m going for a straight look I do have to touch up the ends a bit, but that only takes a few minutes. You should try the messy bun one though! ๐
Having a simple beauty/morning routine really came in handy today because my alarm didn’t go off this morning! I braid my hair overnight for effortless waves and I keep my makeup routine very simple! Great post as always, Cara!
Thanks! I always used to braid my hair the night before throughout highschool and it always made the prettiest wavy hair. Definitely makes it quick and easy in the mornings when getting ready! ๐
Never thought about making a daily routine makeup bag. Makes perfect sense. Going to do this, will save time.
It really is a huge time saver! And so convenient when traveling too. You can just pop the daily bag in your luggage and you’re good to go! ๐
So helpful! I’ve fallen off the doing my hair train, I just can’t seem to do it. This morning I tried to curl my hair with my straight iron…legit hard. I did one curl perfect, and then the rest…yikes! Oh well, I should probably practice that when it’s not 4:30am and I have to leave in 10 minutes, haha!
Oh goodness, 4:30 am? I thought leaving the house at 6:45 was rough, but I have nothing on you girl! haha
Great tips! I’m all about doing as much as I possibly can the might before. I love your tip about creating an everyday make up bag because, you’re right, I have so many make up products and it takes me forever to go through them sometimes to find what I was looking for. I also like to make lunches the night before!
It’s a huge time saver! Love packing lunches at night too! ๐
love the idea of a daily makeup bag!
It’s been super helpful in keeping me more organized in the mornings! Otherwise, I’ll spend 15 minutes searching for an eyeshadow color. haha
I’m all about doing hair the night before & I’ve got my make up routine down to 5 minutes if I have to. Give me sleep more than a pretty face for work ๐
Yep! Save the glamour for the weekends! haha ๐
These are such great tips!! Sad thing is I do most of them and it still takes me over 2 hours to get ready. I’m a bit of a perfectionist so when an eyelash is out of place I’ll mess with it until it goes back to right., I know that’s sad huh?! I do like the one about using double duty products. I’ll give that one a try and see if it cuts my time down ๐
Thanks! Haha I’m like that sometimes too. Most days I’m always in a rush though. ๐
Great tips! I rarely have time in the morning for much of a routine, but these tips def simplify the process!
http://www.liliesandlambs.com
Me neither. I’m usually working with 30 minutes or less total, so having an organized routine is a must! ๐
Great tips! I always lay my outfit out before bed because I know I’ll waste so much time deciding in the morning. Oh, and I miss having long hair so I can do the messy bun before bed trick!
Thankfully my hair has a natural wave to it anyways, so doing the messy bun always ends up looking like I spent 20 minutes styling it, but really I just put it in a bun and went to sleep lol.
Great tips even if you are a “retiree” and don’t have to put anyone together but yourself….hubby is on his own! I really like the idea of the dedicated makeup bag for just the everyday items.
Thank-you!
Picking out my outfit and having it hanging up next to my bathroom is KEY in getting ready earlier for me too!
It’s almost like it serves as a reminder that you’re ready to start your day! ๐
Great tips! I actually do most of these already. I am a creature of habit too, so the more streamed line and put together my morning is the better. I will also, sometimes, make my lunch the night before ๐
Thanks! The more you do something the more it really does become part of the routine and it makes things much easier. I have to pack my lunch at night, or I’ll end up packing something super lazy/non-nutritional like a pack of nabs if I don’t haha. ๐
I just got a new momma ‘do with my hair and am able to put a styling product in at night, sleep on it wet, then in the morning it’s nice and wavy. I’m like hallelujah!! It’s SO nice to look put together without having to do much to my hair when I get up!
Yas! Love when hair cooperates like that! I bet your new do is so cute! ๐
Great tips Cara! I work from home now so the outfit and hair isn’t an issue, but i love the “daily make up” bag! So smart!

Yaas to living in pajamas! ๐ Thank-you!
I’m not sure if this is weird, but I always use the exact same make up products with my every day look. I should probably switch it up. The only thing I switch up really is the color of my lipstick.
That’s not weird at all. If you find what works and it’s a good routine, I think that’s a good thing!
I live by leaving out your clothes, but struggle with the beauty products routine. I will check out the BB cream you mentioned!
Thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome! It’s a nice, lightweight formula that isn’t too heavy but has great coverage at the same time! ๐
The one thing I can’t do is style hair at night. I need to do my shower including hair in the morning in order for me to feel awake and my best. But I have short hair so it doesn’t take me long. Great tips.
Thanks! Yes definitely everyone has to do what works best for them. I always like working out in the mornings to start my day off right! ๐
So helpful! I have always laid out my clothes the night before, and it’s such a help! (And I still do today even though I don’t work outside the home. Mornings are just chaos no matter what!!) I also lay out the boys’ clothes because hey, anything to save time! ๐
Thank-you! It’s a great way to save time when mornings are busy. I do that for my boys too! ๐
