5 Ways to Simplify Your Morning Beauty Routine

Mornings are always a rush in my household, as I’m sure most of you can relate to. Although I’d love to have a full hour to leisurely get ready while sipping hot cocoa and trying out the latest Pinterest makeup trend, that’s unfortunately not an option.

So today I’m sharing 5 simple ways to simplify your morning beauty routine, that help prevent rushing and reduce unnecessary stress.

5 Ways to Simplify Your Morning Beauty Routine

Pick Out Your Outfit the Night Before

While dressing according to your mood may work for some, it can easily add an extra 15 minutes of indecisiveness to the morning routine. I try to always pick out my clothes, shoes, and accessories the night before, and will sometimes even try it on to make sure I love it.

Doing this ensures, time isn’t wasted trying on 4 shirts before picking out the “right” one. I always hang my clothes on the front of my closet, and make sure to cool iron out any wrinkles the night before if needed. I recently started using this steamer, and ya’ll I’m OBSESSED! If you dislike ironing, I totally recommend picking it up, and it’s super affordable.

Keep Your Skincare Products At Your Sink

Time is 100% precious in the mornings, so in order to avoid an unnecessary 5 minute search for skincare items, keep your moisturizer, cleanser, and other skincare products right at your sink for easy access.

This product is my absolute favorite cleanser to use in the mornings and it smells so good! I also like to follow up with this moisturizer that is super lightweight and oil-free.

Create a “Daily Routine” Makeup Bag

Although we all have extensive makeup collections, there’s certain products that we continually use on a day to day basis. In order to avoid spending five minutes trying to find items amidst all the shuffle, I’ve dedicated a specific makeup bag for my daily routine.

This saves so much time in the long run and helps keep me more organized when getting ready. I can simply reach for what I need, put it on, and go. I’ve included a few of my favorites below- aren’t they adorable?!

Use Double-Duty Products

More products=more time spent getting ready. Instead of adding yet another product to the routine, I like using products which offer multiple uses, such as tinted moisturizers.

I’ve mentioned it before, but one of my favorite daily foundations is the 9-in-1 Skin Perfecting BB Cream by Rimmel. Not only does it have great coverage, but it also contains SPF 25 sunscreen, which helps protect my fair skin. I’ve also really been loving the Pixi Multi-Balm Sticks which can be used on both the lips and the cheeks.

Style Hair Before Bed or Overnight

Styling hair can be a tedious process that takes time. In order to minimize time spent on styling it in the mornings, it make sense to do the majority of styling right before bed. If I’m going for a straight look, I’ll run my hair through the straightener and make sure it’s completely dry so it’ll maintain the look. I’ve been using this straightener for years and I love that you only have to run it over the strands once to straighten, and it’s non-damaging.

If I’m going for a curly look I’ll use my beachwaver pro (the absolute best curling iron!) and spray it with an extra hold hairspray like Garnier Anti Humidity Hairspray. Another option I like to use is throwing my hair up in a messy bun after taking a shower, and sleeping on it overnight for a voluminous, wavy look. The next morning, if I need to add touch-ups to any area of the hair, it only takes 2-3 minutes, compared to 10-15.

So there you have it! By using these tips I’ve been able to significantly reduce time spent getting ready in the mornings, which in turn puts me in a much better mood and mindset to tackle what I need to for the day.

I hope you enjoyed this post on 5 Ways to Simplify Your Morning Beauty Routine! What other tips would you add to this list, and what are some things you do to simplify your morning beauty routine?

  1. it takes me less than 10 minutes to get ready from when i wake up so i don’t really need a get-ready morning routine…it takes me 2 minutes to pick out what i’m going to wear since i never dress up for work and it’s always jeans and a tshirt. makeup takes me 1 minute and hair? pony tail. every day, it’s in a pony tail. not giving a sh*t about what you look like certainly speeds things up! 😀

  2. Picking out my clothes at night has been the biggest time saver! I go to the gym at 5:30 every morning so having my gym clothes and the clothes I’m wearing to work out saves so much time! And once it’s out, that’s what I’m wearing.

  3. You are so right!! I have nailed down a quick make up routine for every day and keep all of those products in one bag. I love styling my hair the night before and just doing a quick refresh in the morning. It saves so much time!!

    1. My makeup vanity in the bedroom is always super organized, but unfortunately the hubby works night and I’m stuck doing makeup in the bathroom so I work with limited space. That’s why I love doing the small daily makeup bag! 🙂

  4. I do this every single night! Well…I don’t pick out my outfit, since I wear scrubs haha, but I do lay the ones I am going to wear. And since I shower at night, I also style my hair and in the morning it’s so much easier to just run my straightener in a couple of times or just touch up some of the curls.

  5. I actually started putting all my makeup in Z Palette’s to save time in the morning! Instead of opening and closing 15 different compacts, I put all my powders, bronzers, blushes and eye shadows in a Z Palette so I only need to open one thing.

  6. this sounds so perfect.. this tips will really help.. being a busy mom and wife.. and also as a career woman.. tips like this really help.. thanks a lot

  7. I always try to pick out my clothes the night before, too. It saves me a ton of time! I wish I could do my hair the night before… I just don’t have the texture for it!

  8. I pick out my clothes AND accessories to save time. It helps so much, I’m indecisive enough as it is when it comes to that kind of stuff. Great tips!

  9. This really is the perfect post and I try to do all this! Several years ago it would take me an hour to get ready in the morning, Now it only takes a half hour because I’m committed to so many of these times. On Sunday I even pick out my outfits for the whole week, although I’ve had to alter them lately with the crazy weather, lol.

    1. I do that sometimes to! It really does just help set the tone for your entire day/week, I think. If you’ve picked out your outfit and are ready to go you can tackle anything that comes your way! 🙂

  10. I try my hardest to lay my outfit out the night before. It does not always happen though. For my daily make up routine I keep it pretty simple, unless I decide to wake up early. Which typically does not happen. I love all the sleep I can get. Great tips girl!

  11. These are SO smart! I would have never thought about having a separate smaller bag for everyday makeup! That will seriously cut down time for me!
    Thank you for these tips!

    1. You’re so welcome! I kept wasting so much time trying to search for products in 5 different bags/bins so I finally decided to think smart, not hard. It’s been a huge time saver! 🙂

  12. I always have two or three go to looks for eyes (the rest of my face stays the same) throughout the week depending on what I am wearing and how I am feeling.

    1. Thankfully I must not move around much because it really does stay pretty good.(haha) If I’m going for a straight look I do have to touch up the ends a bit, but that only takes a few minutes. You should try the messy bun one though! 🙂

  13. Having a simple beauty/morning routine really came in handy today because my alarm didn’t go off this morning! I braid my hair overnight for effortless waves and I keep my makeup routine very simple! Great post as always, Cara!

    1. Thanks! I always used to braid my hair the night before throughout highschool and it always made the prettiest wavy hair. Definitely makes it quick and easy in the mornings when getting ready! 🙂

  14. So helpful! I’ve fallen off the doing my hair train, I just can’t seem to do it. This morning I tried to curl my hair with my straight iron…legit hard. I did one curl perfect, and then the rest…yikes! Oh well, I should probably practice that when it’s not 4:30am and I have to leave in 10 minutes, haha!

  15. Great tips! I’m all about doing as much as I possibly can the might before. I love your tip about creating an everyday make up bag because, you’re right, I have so many make up products and it takes me forever to go through them sometimes to find what I was looking for. I also like to make lunches the night before!

  16. These are such great tips!! Sad thing is I do most of them and it still takes me over 2 hours to get ready. I’m a bit of a perfectionist so when an eyelash is out of place I’ll mess with it until it goes back to right., I know that’s sad huh?! I do like the one about using double duty products. I’ll give that one a try and see if it cuts my time down 🙂

  17. Great tips! I always lay my outfit out before bed because I know I’ll waste so much time deciding in the morning. Oh, and I miss having long hair so I can do the messy bun before bed trick!

    1. Thankfully my hair has a natural wave to it anyways, so doing the messy bun always ends up looking like I spent 20 minutes styling it, but really I just put it in a bun and went to sleep lol.

  18. Great tips even if you are a “retiree” and don’t have to put anyone together but yourself….hubby is on his own! I really like the idea of the dedicated makeup bag for just the everyday items.

  19. Great tips! I actually do most of these already. I am a creature of habit too, so the more streamed line and put together my morning is the better. I will also, sometimes, make my lunch the night before 🙂

    1. Thanks! The more you do something the more it really does become part of the routine and it makes things much easier. I have to pack my lunch at night, or I’ll end up packing something super lazy/non-nutritional like a pack of nabs if I don’t haha. 😉

  20. I just got a new momma ‘do with my hair and am able to put a styling product in at night, sleep on it wet, then in the morning it’s nice and wavy. I’m like hallelujah!! It’s SO nice to look put together without having to do much to my hair when I get up!

  21. I’m not sure if this is weird, but I always use the exact same make up products with my every day look. I should probably switch it up. The only thing I switch up really is the color of my lipstick.

  22. The one thing I can’t do is style hair at night. I need to do my shower including hair in the morning in order for me to feel awake and my best. But I have short hair so it doesn’t take me long. Great tips.

  23. So helpful! I have always laid out my clothes the night before, and it’s such a help! (And I still do today even though I don’t work outside the home. Mornings are just chaos no matter what!!) I also lay out the boys’ clothes because hey, anything to save time! 🙂
