I’ve been dermaplaning my skin for a few years now, and it’s honestly been a total game changer for the way my skin looks and feels.

People are constantly complimenting me on how glowing my skin looks and I fully attribute that to having a great skincare routine which includes both at-home microdermabrasion and dermaplaning.

In case you’re new to the world of dermaplaning, in today’s post I’m sharing what dermaplaning is, talking about the 5 main benefits of dermaplaning, and sharing the best at home dermaplaning tool you NEED to try.

Dermaplaning 101

What is Dermaplaning? (Is Dermaplaning just “shaving your face”?)

A lot of people refer to dermaplaning as shaving your face, and while yes you technically are shaving your face, there’s a little more to it than that.

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation process that removes the topmost layer of dead skin and fine hair.

In other words, dermaplaning is shaving your face and removing all the dead/dry yuck – but don’t worry, it’s not like shaving your legs and you don’t use a traditional razor.

Instead, with dermaplaning you use a scalpel type razor for a very close shave and super smooth results.

How Does Dermaplaning Work?

Dermaplaning exfoliates the skin by removing all the unwanted peach fuzz and dead, dry skin from the face.

Not only does this improve the overall texture of the skin, but it also helps promote cell turnover and collagen production, minimizing the appearance of fine lines.

Dermaplaning FAQ’s

What are the Short-term and Long-term Benefits of Dermaplaning ?

The short-term benefits of dermaplaning is your face will be smooth and peach-fuzz/hair free and it will help remove dirt and dry skin, which helps make makeup application easier.

But the long-term benefits can be even better. Dermaplaning helps minimize the appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles, can help improve your skin’s texture and evenness, and can often help with the treatment of acne.

What are the Side Effects of Dermaplaning?

The great thing about dermaplaning is there are typically no side effects.

Depending on your level of sensitivity, some people may have slight redness or tenderness after dermaplaning, but it typically subsides in a few hours.

I always recommend applying a good moisturizer after dermaplaning to rehydrate the skin.

Will It Make My Hair Grow Back Thicker/Darker?

Absolutely not.

This is the most common concern of people considering dermaplaning, and it’s totally not true. Your hair will grow back the exact same color as before and it will not be any thicker either.

What’s a Con of Dermaplaning?

Honestly, I don’t think there is a con of dermaplaning!

Once you start you will quickly become addicted to how soft and smooth your skin looks and feels and you’ll definitely want to make it part of your regular skincare routine.

Which is Better – Dermaplaning vs. Microdermabrasion?

Dermaplaning and Microdermabrasion are often confused since they are both exfoliating skin treatments, but they are not the same.

Dermaplaning uses a scalpel type razor to remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz, while microdermabrasion essentially “sands down” and exfoliates your skin using an abrasive tool.

I personally love and recommend both treatments, but if you are trying to decide between the two, it ultimately depends on what results you are wanting and I would recommend talking to a dermatologist or skin care professional for advice.

How Often Should You Dermaplane?

This really depends on how quickly your hair grows back, but I recommend a minimum of 1-2 times per month.

Is Dermaplaning Really Worth It?

Absolutely! I’m a firm believer in taking care of your skin (I mean you only get one face after all) and dermaplaning will provide both short term and long term benefits for the look and feel of your skin.

Your skin will be smoother, brighter, healthier, and I love that this affordable dermplaning device (Save 20% off with CARA20) allows you to get great results at-home for a fraction of the price that you’d pay for a professional treatment.

5 Benefits of Dermaplaning At Home

Benefits of Dermaplaning  At Home #1

Your face will never be smoother! No, seriously, I mean it.

The absolute best part about at home dermaplaning is it completely removes all that the peach fuzz and dead skin from your face to reveal baby soft, smooth skin that looks and feels amazing.

Benefits of Dermaplaning At Home #2

Dermaplaning helps your skin look more youthful and radiant.

In addition to removing hair, dermaplaning also removes the top layer of impurities that makes our skin appear dry, and dull-looking, allowing skincare products to absorb more effectively.

I’m always amazed at how much brighter, more radiant, and glowing my skin looks after dermaplaning, and even my husband (who never notices anything) always compliments me afterwards.

Benefits of Dermaplaning At Home #3

Your foundation and powders will apply more smoothly after dermaplaning, and you’ll notice a more even, flawless looking finish.

Peach fuzz and dry, dead skin can cause unwanted texture when wearing certain types of makeup, and dermplaning helps eliminate this problem.

Not only will it give you a more smooth base to work with, but you won’t need to use nearly as much product after dermaplaning.

Benefits of Dermaplaning At Home #4

Dermaplaning can minimize your pores.

Most people don’t realize that dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation technique that removes impurities on the skin.

Over time, leftover makeup residue, dirt, and oil can make the pores appear larger on your face, which is why it’s so important to regularly cleanse and exfoliate the skin.

Dermaplaning will help your skin look more refreshed and healthy.

Benefits of Dermaplaning At Home #5

Dermaplaning is 100% non invasive, is non-painful, and doesn’t require any downtime like many skincare treatments.

Depending on your level of sensitivity, your skin might appear slightly red afterwards, but this typically subsides within a few hours.

I always like doing my dermaplaning on a Friday evening and by the next day my skin is always so soft, smooth, and glowing!

  1. Dermaplaning benefits one’s skin by exfoliating and removing unwanted hair from our faces, resulting in brighter and smoother skin. This helps to alleviate uneven skin tone, wrinkles, and fine lines. The outcome is determined by one’s skin type and tone. A professional dermatologist must perform this treatment to avoid the risk of side effects. Repeated treatment is required to achieve one of the patient’s specific needs.

  3. Dermaplaning is seriously the best! I just recently started doing this, and I’m amazed at how much “glowier” my skin looks afterward. I’m adding this tool to my wish list – it would be so nice to have an automatic tool opposed to the manual razors!

    1. Yes it is! I’m so glad to hear you love it too – it’s totally addicting once you start. The tinkle razors are great, but I prefer the electric one because a. it gets a lot closer of a shave and b. I honestly think you save money in the long run vs. replacing the other ones constantly. FYI – They sometimes have bundle sales on QVC around the holidays! ๐Ÿ™‚
