No Bake Cookies FAQ’s
What are no bake cookies made of?
You only need 7 simple ingredients to make these easy no bake cookies!
Ingredients Needed for Easy No Bake Cookies
- Unsalted Butter (use real butter, not margarine)
- Cocoa Powder (use natural, unsweetened cocoa powder or dutch process)
- Honey or Maple Syrup (healthier, natural alternative to granulated sugar and still tastes delish)
- Peanut Butter (use creamy regular peanut butter or choice of nut/seed butter)
- Vanilla Extract
- Sea Salt
- Old Fashioned Rolled Oats (can also use quick oats)
Can you use old fashioned oats instead of quick oats in cookies?
Yes! The great thing about these no bake cookies is you can make them with old fashioned oats or quick oats, whichever you have on hand!
My preference is old fashioned oats because they’re less processed and that’s what I always have in my pantry, but you can use either.
I find that
Are no bake cookies gluten-free?
If made with gluten-free oats, yes no bake cookies are gluten free.
Keep in mind, that not all oats from the store are gluten free though, so if preparing for someone with a gluten allergy, make sure you double-check what oats you are using.
What is the easiest and quickest way to make chocolate or peanut butter no bake cookies?
I recommend making these no bake cookies in a saucepan on a stovetop. It’s super quick and easy and you only dirty up one pan.
Why did my no bake cookies not set/turn out gooey?
If your no bake cookies don’t ever set or turn out gooey, it’s most likely due to not boiling the butter, honey, and cocoa powder mixture long enough.
Make sure you let the mixture come to a rolling boil for 1 full minute before removing from heat.
How long does it take no bake cookies to harden?
How To Store No Bake Cookies
These no bake cookies should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Although traditional no bake cookies can typically be stored at room temperature, these no bake cookies are made with honey which can turn sticky if your home’s temperature is humid/warm.
If storing in layers in a container, I recommend placing a piece of parchment paper or wax paper in between layers to prevent sticking.
How Long Do No Bake Cookies Last?
When stored in the fridge, they will remain fresh for up to 2 weeks.
Can You Freeze No Bake Cookies?
Yes! No bake cookies can easily be frozen in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 3 months.
Once ready to eat, let cookies thaw in the fridge overnight or at room temperature until thawed.
Chocolate Peanut Butter No Bake Cookies Recipe Tips
Tip #1 – Gather + Measure Out All Ingredients First
This recipe comes together quickly, which is why I recommend to measure out all your ingredients and have them ready to go to make it easier.
Tip #2 – Line Your Baking Sheets Ahead of Time
Once you’ve prepared your no bake cookie mixture, you’ll want to have a large cookie sheet lined with parchment paper for quick + easy dropping.
The cookie mixture doesn’t take long to start setting up, so make sure you don’t wait and scoop right away.
Tip #3 – Use a Cookie Scoop
For even-sized and mess-free scooping, use a small cookie scoop to scoop out your cookies.
Alternatively, you can use a measuring spoon or regular spoon.
Tip #4 – Refrigerate Cookies
I know it’s tempting to wanna dig in right away, but fight the urge, and place your no bake cookies in the fridge to set up for a minimum of 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Tip #5 – Let Mixture Boil 1 Minute Total
These no bake cookies are pretty fuss-free, but set a timer and make sure you let the butter, honey, and cocoa powder boil at a rolling boil (not simmer) for 1 full minute before removing from heat.
I recommend setting a timer on your phone or oven, and don’t start timing it until the mixture is bubbling up in the middle.
Once you’ve boiled for 1 minute, remove from heat to avoid over-cooking it.
No Bake Cookies Variations/Substitution Ideas:
No Bake Cookies Without Peanut Butter
No bake cookies can easily be made without peanut butter, and swapped for other nut butters such as almond butter or cashew butter.
You can also make them nut-free with sunflower seed butter or biscoff spread (cookie butter).
I frequently make them with almond butter, and they’re delicious!
No Bake Cookies No Chocolate
If desired, you can make these no bake cookies without chocolate by omitting the cocoa powder.
If made chocolate free, keep in mind that the peanut butter flavor or other nut/seed butter flavor will be more prevalent.
No Bake Cookies (Sugar Alternatives)
These no bake cookies are already made refined sugar-free with honey, but you can easily swap out the honey with maple syrup.
I’ve made them both ways and they’re both equally delicious.
No Bake Cookies With Mix In’s
The great thing about this cookie recipe is you can easily add in mix-ins for more texture/flavor.
Some of my favorite mix-ins include shredded coconut, chopped nuts, or even M&Ms.
