Best High End Makeup Worth The Splurge

Although I’m a drugstore makeup lover, there are definitely certain makeup items that I recommend splurging a little more on. Below I’ve included some helpful tips and FAQ’s about high end makeup.

When should I splurge on high end makeup?

A good rule of thumb when deciding whether or not a high end makeup item is worth splurging on, is to really look at how often you’ll use it.

This can often justify the higher cost and make more sense in the long run if you will be getting a lot of use out of it.

High End Makeup vs. Drugstore Makeup – What’s the Difference?

Price – The biggest difference in high end makeup vs drugstore makeup is of course the price. Drugstore makeup typically ranges from $1 – $25, while high end makeup and luxury makeup can cost $20 – $100 and upwards.

Quality/Ingredients – Another difference in high end makeup and drugstore makeup is the quality of the product and the ingredients used. Often times the quality of ingredients and staying power is better in high end makeup products, and the formulation is superior.  Now of course, this doesn’t always make the product better, but you will typically pay the difference in the price.

Lasting Power – Because the ingredients are often superior in high end makeup, they tend to last longer and hold up better than a more budget-friendly option. So even though you might be spending more $$$, it will last you for a longer time, which is still a smart choice.

What makeup brands are considered high end?
This varies depending on who you ask, but I personally consider high end makeup anything that is not sold at the drugstore.

Others might categorize makeup into three categories such as drugstore, mid-range, and high end, and some might even separate out a luxury makeup category, but for the purposes of keeping things simple we’re just gonna go with two main categories – drugstore and high end makeup.

Clinique ‘Even Better’ Foundation

I have so many high end makeup splurges but I think my number 1 product is Clinique ‘Even Better’ Foundation. It is my ride or die and hasn’t let me down since 2001!

Every time I use it I get the same result (no matter what season) and my skin always looks so healthy.

I get a ton of compliments and questions on my makeup routine every time I use it! It is great for everyday use because it has SPF in it and it isn’t heavy but it also slays for full glam moments!

Also, if you are looking to improve your foundation routine make sure to grab Tarte’s ‘The Buffer’ Airbrush Finish Foundation Brush for a flawless application. That combo is my secret beauty weapon! – Kara, Kara Larkin Lifestyle

Best High End Makeup – Lipstick

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lipliner & Pillow Talk Lipstick

One of my favorite high end makeup brands of all time is Charlotte Tilbury!

I have lots of products I love from her line, but if I had to pick my favorites I’d go with the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lipliner and Pillow Talk Lipstick.

Pillow Talk is the most flattering nude lip color I’ve ever found!

It looks very natural, and the lipstick has the perfect, smooth consistency.

You can see them in action on my recent Lily Rose Depp makeup tutorial over here.Daisy, Sand Sun & Messy Buns

Best High End Makeup – Eyeshadow Palettes

Lorac Eyeshadow Palettes

I’ve been using Lorac Eyeshadow Palettes since I started on my makeup journey and now have 5 of their palettes I love them so much!

They are the one high end makeup item I consistently splurge on and the quality simply can’t be beat. The eyeshadows are so rich and pigmented, blend like a dream, and I love the variety of colors and finishes in each palette.

The original Pro Palette and Mega Pro Palette are probably my favorites in the bunch, but you seriously can’t go wrong with any of them.

I also recently started using the MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Soft Ochre to prime the eyelids, and it’s been a total game changer. Cara, Kindly Unspoken Blog

Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyeshadow Palettes

I love Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyeshadow Palettes. Particularly, Modern Renaissance and Sultry!

They are SO worth the splurge because they have a creamy, blend-able formula that lasts a long time, doesn’t crease, and is SO beautifully pigmented without being overwhelming.

The colors are timeless and would work for anyone! Taylor, Blonde and Ambitious Blog

Charlotte Tilbury Icon Eyeshadow Palette

The Charlotte Tilbury Icon Eyeshadow Palette is so fun and versatile!

Like all her products, the Icon Palette has a certain sophistication to it.

Best High End Makeup – Concealer & Correctors

Tarte CC Undereye Corrector

My favorite, can’t live without high-end makeup product has to be the Tarte CC Undereye Corrector.

I have terrible dark circles and have tried MANY undereye correctors and this is the only one that has done the job!

If you struggle with the same problem, I can’t recommend this enough! Lily, Beauty with Lily

Too Faced Born This Way Multi-Use Sculpting Concealer

Concealer is a product I consistently spend more money on. My absolute favorite high end makeup product is the Too Faced Born This Way Multi-Use Sculpting Concealer.

It is very pigmented and full coverage, and the finish is very natural yet stays put!

If you have tried to love Tarte Shape Tape but find it too drying underneath your eyes, give this one a try!

It packs the same punch but with a more natural finish! Meg, Meg O on the Go

Best High End Makeup – Primer & Skincare

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter

I recently took the plunge and splurged on the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter.

I’m so glad I did because since then, it’s been the one product that I use daily.

Online it’s described as a complexion booster since you can use it as a primer, mixed into your foundation, or simply as a highlighter.

My personal favorite way to use it is just as a highlighter. Its smooth and creamy texture blends out beautifully over foundation or natural skin.

The highlight can be either blinding or natural, depending on how much you apply. This product is pricy, but now that I have it I don’t think I’ll ever go without it again! Bree, The Urban Umbrella

Tatcha The Silk Canvas Protective Primer

I’d recommend Tatcha The Silk Canvas Protective Primer. Even with my oily skin it makes my makeup look beautiful and doesn’t accentuate oil or allow product to slide all over my face.

It’s pricey for a primer but it’s also skincare. Luckily it also comes in a smaller size that’s less expensive and perfect for trying it out (though you’ll absolutely want the full size). Brooke, Blushing Noir

Dior Capture Totale Dreamskin – Not only does it prime your skin for makeup application ensuring you have a flawless look;

it also has anti-aging properties to combat wrinkles, redness and more. It truly enables you to have dream skin! Tori, The Storibook

Best High End Makeup – Powder

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder

There are some pretty decent drugstore setting powders out there but Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder does it best!

It sets my makeup without any creasing or caking and my skin feels velvety soft. It’s definitely my go-to setting powder for flawless finish! Tanya, Leopard Lace and Cheesecake

Shop at Laura Mercier | Shop at Ulta | Shop at Sephora

It Cosmetics ByeBye Pores Pressed Powder

My high end makeup recommendation is the It Cosmetics ByeBye Pores Pressed Powder.

This is my holy grail powder because it sets my foundation beautifully without looking cakey or adding flashback. It truly smooths out your skin and pores and creates a beautiful airbrushed look.

It also sets undereye concealer really well and is a great all-around setting powder that finishes any face makeup flawlessly! Chelsie, Hey There, Chelsie

Ciaté London Extraordinary Translucent Powder is my new favorite that I actually just bought a few weeks ago.

Normally I don’t buy high-end loose powder because there are so many great affordable ones. But this powder gives such a beautiful finish. No flashbacks and of course it makes your skin looks flawless without looking powdery. I definitely recommend this if you’re oily.

I have combination skin so the areas that I get oily stay matte all day.  Jasmine, Jasmine Maria Blog

Best High End Makeup Blushes

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes in Incandescent Electra, Euphoric Fusion, and Mood Exposure are some of my favorite high end makeup blushes.

I love the way they blend and their gorgeous glow.Courtney, Phyrra.net
