- Use Mild or Spicy Ground Italian Sausage – You can use either mild or spicy ground Italian sausage in this pasta recipe. Both are delicious and it’s really up to your personal preference.

Kitchen tools you’ll need
1. Cook The Pasta
First begin boiling salted water in a saucepan over medium-high heat.
Once water is boiling, add in bowtie pasta, and cook noodles to al dente, according to package instructions.
2. Cook Italian Sausage and Add Flavor
Next use a knife to finely dice a small onion. Using a handheld grater, freshly shred parmesan cheese in a bowl. Set both aside for later.
In a large nonstick skillet, add extra virgin olive oil. Next add ground Italian sausage, and begin breaking apart with a wooden spoon. Cook over medium high heat until fully cooked.
Next separate the ground sausage from the olive oil in the pan, and add in the minced garlic. Next add the finely diced onion, stir, and cook the mixture until the onions begin to soften, about 1-2 minutes. Stir everything together until evenly combined.
3. Add Tomato Sauce and Seasonings
Next add in the Italian seasoning, and add salt and ground black pepper to taste.
Pour in the diced tomatoes and tomato sauce and stir until evenly incorporated. Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes.
4. Add Cream and Parmesan Cheese
Lastly, pour in the heavy cream, unsalted butter, and shredded parmesan cheese and stir until combined.
Let the mixture simmer until it thickens (about 5 minutes).
5. Stir In Bowtie Pasta
Drain the cooked bowtie pasta and stir into the sauce until evenly combined.
If desired, top with additional shredded parmesan cheese and enjoy!
