Best Red Lipsticks For Fair Skin
All of the red lipsticks I’ve included in today’s post are suited best for fair skin tones, but it’s important to keep in mind that your skin’s undertone plays a big role in how a color will look on you. To help you determine your undertone, I’ve included a quick guide below that will help you determine which type of red lipsticks will work best for you.
Blue-based red lipsticks are always a great choice for all skin tones and will help your teeth look whiter, while orange-based red lipsticks help bring out the warm tones in your skin and pair beautifully with a sun-kissed glow in the summer months.
How Do I Know Which Red Lipstick Suits Me?
The key to finding the best red lipstick for fair skin is understanding which undertone you have. A simple way to determine your undertone is by looking at the veins on your wrist or arm.
- If you have blue veins, then you have a cool undertone. (Opt for blue-based red lipsticks)
- If you have green veins, then you have a warm undertone. (Opt for orange-based red lipsticks)
- If you’re not sure or have both green and blue veins, then you are neutral and can rock both blue-based and orange-based red lipsticks. (yay!)

Thank you, Cara. Red is so very classy, but tough to choose for fair skinned gals! Thanks for taking the time to distinguish the warm/cool/neutral tones, too. Your post is very much appreciated!!!

Cherries in the Snow is such an iconic color! These all look gorgeous on you – you’re right that it can be so hard to find a good red shade no matter your skin tone. I just ordered a couple NYX butter glosses in a few of their red shades for a more subtle wash of color that I can’t wait to try!

Thank-you! It’s one of my favorites. And I bet those are so pretty – I LOVE the texture of NYX butter glosses and they’re great both alone or on top of another shade. Hope you love them!

I love all of these on you, they are gorgeous! I have a drawer full of reds, and I rarely reach for them. I need to venture out more. I am always wearing a light nude-pink color.

Thank-you! Red can be intimidating for sure, but I know it’d look great on you! I always recommend starting out with a shade that has a hint of red to it like maybe a pink/red or coral/red to sort of dip your toes into the world of red lol. Also I’ll be doing a post on the best drugstore nude lipsticks very soon so stay tuned! π
