Delicious Sweet Potato Chicken Poppers (Whole30/Paleo/Gluten-Free)
Hey everyone and Happy Thursday! Since completing my first Whole30 back in January, I’m happy to report I’ve continued to eat healthy and continue to make several Whole30 recipes on a weekly basis. One of my absolute favorite things to eat for lunch or make for a quick dinner on busy nights are these Delicious Sweet Potato Chicken Poppers!
If you love chicken nuggets but are looking for something a little healthier and wholesome, then these sweet potato chicken poppers are for you! They’re flavored with a yummy blend of garlic, onion, spices, and herbs, and loaded with healthy nutrients from the sweet potato.
They’re also gluten-free, and Whole30 and Paleo approved, and the perfect alternative to chicken nuggets when the craving strikes. Serve them with a salad, side of veggies, and your favorite dipping sauce and you have yourself a healthy, easy, and delicious meal!

Sweet Potato Chicken Poppers
One of the best things about doing Whole30 is it opened my mind to trying out new healthy recipes and flavor pairings. And trust me when I say that sweet potato and ground chicken are absolutely DE-LICIOUS together!
These sweet potato chicken poppers are honestly one of the favorite things I ate both on Whole30 and now off of Whole30 and even my picky kids love them! They’re also super easy to make and great for meal prepping or as a yummy appetizer for parties.
I personally always double the recipe so I can eat one batch throughout the week and freeze the other batch for weeks ahead. They pair perfectly with a salad or side of veggies for a healthy lunch or dinner, and are super yummy dipped in guacamole, ranch, or barbecue sauce (I’ve linked my favorites below).

Try my Delicious Sweet Potato Chicken Poppers for a healthy alternative to chicken nuggets! These easy chicken poppers are made with simple ingredients, take less than 30 minutes to make, and are gluten-free, Whole30, and Paleo approved!
- Prep Time: 10
- Cook Time: 25
- Total Time: 35 minutes
- Yield: 20-25 chicken poppers 1x
- Category: Dinner, Appetizer
- Method: Oven
- Cuisine: American
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground chicken (uncooked)
- 2 cups uncooked sweet potato, shredded (I use this affordable food processor)
- 2 tbsp coconut flour (I recommend this one)
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 2 tsp parsley
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- 1–2 dashes of hot sauce (if desired)
- Parchment paper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 Fahrenheit and line a large baking sheet with good quality parchment paper like this one.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, shredded sweet potatoes, coconut flour, and seasonings until well combined.
- Next, create your sweet potato chicken poppers using this medium cookie scoop and place on a large baking sheet evenly spaced apart. Using your hands smooth out each chicken popper and slightly flatten the top to form a similar shape to a chicken nugget. I usually can make about 30 sweet potato chicken poppers per batch.
- Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes, turning over half way until fully cooked and slightly golden. I usually do mine for 12 minutes on each side and they come out perfect!
- Remove your chicken poppers from the oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
- These sweet potato chicken poppers pair perfectly with this Whole30 approved guacamole and my favorite Whole30 ranch and Whole30 barbecue sauce.
Notes
These Sweet Potato Chicken Poppers are great for healthy meal prepping and it’s so easy to double the batch and freeze extra! Allow the chicken poppers to fully cool before placing in a freezer-safe ziploc bag(s) or container and freezing. To re-heat from frozen, simply pop them in the microwave for 1 minute and enjoy!

This sounds fun! Can you believe out of all the cooking I have done, I do not have a food processor. I really need to get one.
They’re super yummy! I only bought one within the last year but it saves so much time when chopping up/shredding veggies.
