Chocolate Chip Cast Iron Cookie Recipe
If you’ve never had the pleasure of eating a chocolate chip cookie skillet (also sometimes called a pizooki or cast iron cookie) then you really want to save this recipe for making ASAP.
A lot of restaurants nowadays serve chocolate chip cookie skillets and most often they’re topped with vanilla bean ice cream and drizzled with chocolate syrup, which is also what I did in my recipe.
It’s SO good, ya’ll!
To make my chocolate chip cookie skillet even better, we chose to brown our butter and man oh man does that make it taste epically delicious!
Brown butter has such a great flavor and when combined with brown sugar and sugar, it has an almost caramel/toffee flavor to it that is just incredible.

Recommended Tools For Cast Iron Cookie:
How to Make A Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillet
First things first, in order to make a chocolate chip cookie skillet, you’re gonna need a good cast iron skillet. I
f you don’t have one already, I highly recommend this affordable cast iron set from Amazon.
We bought them for Christmas last year and use them ALL the time. They’re great quality, sturdy, and I love the 3 different sizes.
For this particular recipe I chose to use a 10 inch skillet, but you could also use the 12 inch skillet if you wanted a thinner cookie.
Ingredients Needed
Cookie Skillet
- Unsalted Butter
- Granulated Sugar
- Light Brown Sugar
- Dark Brown Sugar
- Large Eggs
- Vanilla Extract
- Self-Rising Flour
- Mini Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
- Milk Chocolate Chips
Brown Your Butter
To get started you’re gonna first cut up your butter into pieces and begin melting it in your cast iron pan over medium heat, stirring often. Once the butter is completely melted, it will form a foam and begin to sizzle around the edges.
Continue stirring for about 3 more minutes until the butter turns a golden brown color and the foam has dissolved. Turn the heat to low and add in the sugar and brown sugar a spoonful at a time. Continue stirring until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
Remove from heat and pour your brown butter and sugar mixture into a heat-proof bowl and place in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes to cool.
Add Eggs, Vanilla, & Flour
Once the brown butter and sugar mixture have cooled enough, pour back into your cast iron skillet and add the eggs and vanilla. Stir well until combined.
Next stir in self rising flour in batches into the cast iron dish and mix together until combined and the cookie dough has formed.
Mix in Chocolate Chips
Last but not least it’s time to add in your chocolate chips. Gently stir in the chocolate chips and sprinkle a few on top, if desired.
I love the combination of semi sweet and milk chocolate so that is what I chose to use for this recipe, but feel free to switch up the flavors to what you like.
I also love using miniature chocolate chips as they add more chocolate to the filling.
Bake in Oven
Next place your cookie skillet into a preheated oven and bake at 325 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until the edges are a golden brown and have slightly pulled away from the sides.
The center of the cookie will still be slightly gooey and that’s okay. Once it cools it will firm up.
Place cookie skillet on a cooling rack and let cool for 15-30 minutes before serving. If desired, pinch a tiny bit of flaky sea salt on top while warm.
Recommended Toppings
Traditionally a pizookie is topped with vanilla bean ice cream and chocolate sauce, but the possibilities are endless here. Here are just a few other yummy chocolate chip cookie skillet topping ideas:
